Book Description

September 16, 2010
This book presents the latest developments in the field of architecture as it has been reshaped by the use of digital technologies. The last few years, technological developments in both hardware and software have enabled the realization of ideas that until now were only presented as theories, and have also opened new and unexpected areas of experimentation. The new digital technologies are influencing every stage of the creative process from the initial exploration of ideas to the construction of the final work and its interaction with the user. These developments are presented in four chapters, each one including detailed presentation of the most important relevant projects and general theoretical-technical information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring, enlightening October 4, 2010

This book is very similar to Lisa Iwamoto's book on contemporary architecture and techniques. Yet, the amount of information found here is certainly not extremely plentiful, and sometimes causes the reader to wish for more description. Regardless, the breadth of projects is expansive, and there will certainly be one (or some, or all) that will catch your eye. The theme revolves around digital techniques on architectural modelling, fabricating and conceptual design. The projects do not go indepth into their process, again, the work that is shown here is slightly more than an overview rather than a profound description of the design process. Yet, despite the disparity in style and presentation amongst all the projects, the book constantly challenges our perspectives on what architecture is and what it should be. The projects here certainly provide one focused possibility on architecture in the future, the theme centered around the highly digitally-dependent modelling. There is a lot of great inspiration in this book, and certainly leads any reader interested in this field of design in the right direction.

This is a nice read, informative, yet not overly academic, great pictures as well. I found Lisa Iwamoto's book on the same subject to be more informative, (her work is on the cover of this one)but the images in this one are larger, and more plentiful, This is a grreat book for anyone interested in digital fabrication.
