A must read for those interested in the future of education,
By A Customer
This review is from: Contemporary Issues in Curriculum (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
This timely book reviews some of the greatest challenges and promises confronting education today. Thought provoking essays on educational reform, guidelines for the effective implementation of technology into the classroom, and essential questions regarding the future direction of education provide a well-rounded overview of todays most pressing concerns of education.

I had purchased this book for a class; read through each one of the articles; the Harry Wong chapter was my favorite; We were tested on this book through our evaluative discussions every other day; some of the chapters were beyond my understanding; Bloom's chapter was theoretical and I just skimmed through it.Buy this book only if you require it for a class/course you are pursuing - either in Principalship or on a research paper on Curriculum; not a good buy if your line is Masters in reading specialist

The book was in ok shape, it had some highlighting and writting on as it was described in the listing. The price should be a little lower cause it seems to have been pre-owned in more than one occassion.

The book is great- however, if you are buying the 3rd edition instead of a more current edition, be aware that there are a few chapters missing from the earlier edition! The later editions have more essays that are not included in the earlier editions.

This book is truly a gem. The information on Paulo Freier, The Choice Theory, and Clinchy's, "Needed: A New Civil Rights Movement in Public Education" were extremely insightful and inspiring. I wish I had been introduced to this text earlier in my educational career. I wonder if The Secretary of Education of our country has read this book. He certainly should and so should our President (whom I greatly respect, admire, and personally believe has the best of intentions but not necessarily the best and most truthful advice on public education). I also hope educational reformers in "high places" truly interested in progressive, equitable educational reform for all, rather than those "so-called educational reformers" whose major mission and hidden agenda focuses on the dismantling of public schools, would read the book as well. In my honest opinion, any educated individual who cannot clearly see that "for-profit" and "not-for-profit" charter schools, educational voucher systems, and the subplanting of uncertified teachers who have not completed a formal teacher education program in American schools is just another attempt to perpetuate elitism, classism, and privatize American public schools.

I had to buy and read this book for class there are 40 or so people that wrote the book the styles are all over and some of the chapters seem to go on rants about irrelevant things, but some are really good chapter 10 for example was a good one

if using for a graduate course,
This review is from: Contemporary Issues in Curriculum (3rd Edition) (Paperback)
I really found that this text had enough case studies and information when used for my graduate course. It makes you see how you can apply the information to scenarios in the text and relate it to the educational system to enhance student learning. I recommend this text.
