From late 1942 to 1946, he served as a language specialist in the U.S. Army in Washington, D.C. and then came back to Harvard to complete work for the A.B. in 1947 and the Ph.D. in 1950. After a term in the Society of Fellows, he taught at the University of California at Los Angeles from 1952 to 1958, when he returned to Cambridge as Associate Professor of Japanese Literature. Format: Paperback
Contemporary Japanese Literature: An Anthology Of Fiction, Film, And Other Writing Since 1945 is a collection of some of the finest written works in Japan, offering English translations of stories by nearly two dozen authors. Selected by editor and Harvard professor emeritus of Japanese literature Howard Hibbett, Contemporary Japanese Literature is the perfect smorgasbord to experience post-World War II Japanese writings. Contemporary Japanese Literature is particularly recommended for college library shelves and personal literature collections.

I needed to purchase this book for my Portrait of Japan course in college (Japanese culture and history course). It's got a lot of very interesting stories in it, and the book itself was great quality.
