Best Book on The Subject!, March 6, 2000
This review is from: Contemporary Kilnformed Glass: An International Exhibition (Paperback)
As a glass artist of many years; I can honestly say this book is the best I have seen on kilnformed glass. A friend of mine owned this book when I first saw it. I have been looking for it ever since. Many glass art suppliers don't even handle it. It contains beautiful full color pictures of glass art objects created in kilns. Some background on each artist, as well as their methods, are included with each featured work of art. If you are interested in glass art, you need this book. From fusing and slumping to casting, it containes the finest examples in the world.

Great history of kilnformed glass, December 26, 2010
This review is from: Contemporary Kilnformed Glass: An International Exhibition (Paperback)
This catalogue of kilnformed glass is nearly 20 years old (from an exhibition staged by Bullseye Glass and the Contemporary Crafts Gallery in 1992), and it's worth acquiring if you can find a copy. It is NOT an instruction manual but it's certainly inspirational.
More important (I think), it both shows how far kilnformed glass has come...and how little things change. Most of the big names in kilnforming are represented here, and it's fun to compare the work they're doing now with these earlier pieces.
It's equally intriguing to look at the "fresh, new, exciting" artwork from new artists that's being praised around the world...and see it repeated in this old catalogue, sometimes with only slight variations. I can't decide if that's encouraging (we're emulating some pretty great artists), discouraging (can't we do anything new?) or simply a reflection of the prescience and taste (and influence) of the curators.
In any case, it's a good addition to a glassist's library. If you do find a copy, be sure to read the text. Both the curators' introduction and a foreword by authority Keith Cummings are informative.
