This review is from: Contemporary Lampworking: A Practical Guide to Shaping Glass in the Flame (Volume 1 and 2) Third Edition (Hardcover-spiral)
It should get more stars than five, the history of lampworking portion of the book is almost worth the price of the book itself. The history portion is only a small portion of the set. I have been doing lampworking for about 3 years now and I search the internet for anything reguarding lampworking often and this book set has tons of stuff I have never seen. excellent.

If you could have only one book, it would be wise to consider this one. I have been in this industry many years and this is by far the best book I have seen out there.

This book is more specifically for boro flameworking than for soft glass. It has some usefull information for soft glass but not worth the price if you are not planning to use boro glass. Also, the majority of pictures are in black and white. If you are willing to spend this much for a book on flameworking with soft glass get "Passing The Flame" by Corina Tettinger. If Boro is your main focus, by all means, this book is the right one for you.

I Have the whole series of contemporary lampworking Books . I have learned many lessons in these books .
They are a good series for any lampworker to own .I fully enjoy reading and looking through the entire book.. There are lessons , tips , photos of current work and much much more . When i received #3 in the mail i quickly read the book . Right away ideas started flowing, that week we made new tools and learned new processes of working with glass. This year my self and my team of two others used processes found in this book and won first place at Las vegas ,Champs 2010 . Thank you scott your book is quite wonderful.

I found this book to be fantastic. Despite my only working in soft glass, I love that it talks about Boro as well. I had an instructor tell me it didn't apply to soft glass work and I shouldn't buy it... I am so glad I make decisions for myself! The history told is very informative, the tips and tricks throughout the book make it worth every penny. I was most interested in learning the chemistry behind the glass because once you understand that, so many other things come into place. Even on the descriptions that don't direct relate to what I do, I learned something. I love the author's sense of humor- it makes the book an easy and delightful read. So many books are simply "how-to's" these days and don't explain the "whys". Thank you for writing this book and explaining the "whys" in a way everyone can understand! I have now purchased volumes 2 and 3 and am excited to read them. A must have for any lampworker's library.

This is one of the best written and comprehensive books on lampworking that I've read. I've been familiar with Dunham's work and have followed him on Facebook but I didn't know he had a book. My loss. Read the 2-volume set cover to cover immediately and learned lots. This should be in every lampworker's library.

Quite a disappointment. Most of the pictures are in black and white, you can hardly see any detail. I really like looking at finished glassbeads and sculptures. But this gives me no inspiration at all.

These books are chuk filled with information. Everything from how glass is made (chemically) to blowing glass. It's good, because I can jump around, I don't have to read if from page 1. I just go to what I need to know. If your serious about lampworking, these are very useful.
