This anthology provides a comprehensive selection of readings on eleven contemporary social issues revolving around three general themes: Matters of Life and Death, Matters of Equality and Diversity, and Expanding the Circle (duties beyond borders, living together with animals, and environmental ethics). MATTERS OF LIFE AND DEATH: Abortion; Genetic Manipulation and Cloning; Euthanasia; Punishment and the Death Penalty. MATTERS OF EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY: Race and Ethnicity; Gender; Sexual Orientation; Poverty and Welfare; EXPANDING THE CIRCLE: Duties Beyond Borders; Living Together with Animals; Environmental Ethics. For anyone interested in Ethics, Social Ethics, and Contemporary Moral Problems.

3.0 out of 5 stars Text Book, August 16, 2007
By
I got this book for a class. I liked the text. I thought it did a good job of summarizing the issues. The excerpts used to define the moral arguments were great. In writing the paper for the class, I had a diffucult time coming up with any other articles that were as concise as the ones used in the book. On every issue discussed Hinman did an excellent job of presenting both sides of the arguments.
