About the Author

Peter Lane is a well-known British ceramicist. He was senior lecturer at the University of East Anglia for many years before retiring to make ceramics full-time. He is a popular guest speaker and demonstrator in the UK, on the Continent and in Australia. A treasure trove of information, techniques and examples of the best in porcelain today. Excellent for the collector as well as those working in this demanding medium. The photos are breathtaking and Lane knows what he is talking about. This is the latest edition of what is clearly a labor of love.

This book gives a thorough and knowledgable insight into working with porcelain. The many fabulous photos are inspiring and the artists have been generous in sharing their methods and recipes. I have found this book to be an excellent addition to my resources and know I will keep referring to it throughout many years.

There's a reason why Lane's has endured and now exists in a second edition with expanded content and more color illustrations -- this book covers the waterfront.

Lane surveys porcelain's history and, more importantly, its properties. There is detailed discussion of how it can be manipulated -- separate chapters on form and throwing processes, on glazes, and on surface treatments. And the chapter which lies at the heart of the book for me is entitled "Sources of Inspiration and Means of Expression a comprehensive overview made richer by statements by individual artists.

And there are the photos. Stunning photos of stunning objects.

Consider me a fan.
