5.0 out of 5 stars An authentic, albeit short, review
I'm currently a senior majoring in Criminal Justice. Most of a CJ major is actually Sociology classes. As such, I've encountered both classic and contemporary sociological theories in most of my classes. The first thing I noticed about this book is that it's short. Would not recommend the seller for the following reason: I ordered my book on 12/10/10 and as of today 01/15/11 I still have not received the book. I sent a note to the seller twice but never got a response. I had to purchase the book elsewhere. I filed a claim and I am waiting to get my money back.

5.0 out of 5 stars An authentic, albeit short, review, January 23, 2012
I'm currently a senior majoring in Criminal Justice. Most of a CJ major is actually Sociology classes. As such, I've encountered both classic and contemporary sociological theories in most of my classes. The first thing I noticed about this book is that it's short. Less than 300 pages and smaller than most textbooks, Ritzer keeps things clear and concise. Really, what more do you want in a text? The book covers classical theories in brief, contemporary theories of everyday life and grand theories, integrative theories, feminist theories, globalization theory, and explores the newest developments in postmodern theories. Ritzer's own work on McDonaldization and consumption theory are covered as well.

Bottom line: This is a well-written, clearly communicated book covering contemporary sociological theory.
