4.0 out of 5 stars Get a Broad spectrum of Urban Planning for the Beginner
This book gives a broad spectrum of what to expect in the planning field, but there are a few flaws. One is that the book is not written for the technocratic planner, it is written for the beginner or someone who is not going to make planning their career. But this book will give the beginner a broad basis to start from and for this I do suggest the beginner to read...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good basic overview
I was thinking of enrolling in a masters program for Urban Planning, and wanted to get a better sense of what a planner did. This book offers a good overview of the field, and provides a basic understanding of the types of issues a planner might deal with. I would recommend it to anyone who is in my position, trying to learn more about the field. For anyone looking for...

For anyone looking for more than just a basic, 1st level overview, this is not your book.

5.0 out of 5 stars study guide, October 5, 2010
As it is clear and concise, this book is a great overview for all aspects of the planning profession. I have ordered it (interlibrary loan) to study for the AICP examp, and am quite satisfied. It may be a bit too dry for a college level planning course, but an intro to planning graduate course, whether as part of MA or MPA programs, would be served well to utilize this book.

I have'nt received the product yet from TX books, I am almost finished with the class and am very far behind in my reading. I have sent two emails to this company to tell them I have not received the book yet and they have not even responded to them to tell me what happened or when the book might get here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great introductory planning book, August 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book was for an upper division Introduction to Planning course at the University of Oregon and it provided the insight and real world examples of different aspects of the planning process. The book also provided great case studies of the real world application of planning methods in contemporary world settings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Textbook, November 24, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The textbook arrived just in the condition as stated. The book gives very good detail about urban planning. Where it was in the past, and where it should be going in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm sure this will be an excellent book, August 19, 2009
Given the price of this volume, I was expecting to receive a five pound tome large enough to hollow out a compartment to hide expensive jewelry and the like. What I received was a slim book barely a half inch thick that won't fill the space I reserved for it on my bookshelf. The price these textbook publishers charge for books is outrageous, I'm shocked at the blatant book racketeering going on in higher education. Textbook racket aside, I think this book will make a solid foundation on which to build my planning career.
