Product Description

Net Nanny for Mac sets up a protective wall around your computer. Along with age-based profile settings, anti-predator capabilities, and a redesigned, easy to use interface, Net Nanny for Mac 2.0 also offers the following exciting and necessary features: Remote Reporting: Powerful web-based reporting tools exist to help parents monitor web browsing and view instant message conversations from any internet connection. Review internet usage policies and see detailed reports from anywhere! New filters: Net Nanny for Mac 2.0 filters FTP/SFTP, SSL (https or secure proxy filtering) and social networking sites (FaceBook, MySpace, etc.). Game Blocking: There's a time for games and a time for school work. You can now block access to popular online games with a click of a button. Net Nanny for Mac from ContentWatch blocks adult web sites, sites with subjects not fit for children, and even blocks chats when predatory language is used. It blocks all offensive content coming from the Internet. Net Nanny for Mac works with multiple users, and interfaces seamlessly with the Mac OS X user accounts on your computer. If you have several children, you can set different criteria corresponding to their age or maturity. You can choose whether they have access to newsgroups, e-mail, or whether they can download files. You can set the program to let them only use the Internet at certain times, and on certain days. You can choose to block or allow specific web sites, allow users only to use selected applications, and block access to specific types of content, such as streaming media or peer-to-peer file transfers. This internet safety software for Mac can even send you e-mail, automatically, when certain events occur.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Mac filter available - tons better than Apples included controls, May 20, 2010
This review is from: ContentWatch NetNanny for Mac 2.0 (CD-ROM)
Having tried multiple parental filters on the PC, including the standard ones that came with the OS, I can say I was pleasantly surprised. I believe this is one of the only filters for the Mac, except for the Parental Controls apple includes free. How does it compare to the apple parental controls? Only played with the OS included one for a couple minutes, but was immediately turned off at how sparse it is. Net Nanny includes a ton more features - and not just fancy pants features that aren't necessary... the features it includes are necessary to protect your kids. It works with all chat programs, has anti-predator mode, redirects to family friendly pages, etc.

Anyway, I've been using net nanny for almost a year now and have been very pleased.

Ever since my parents got Netnanny, our computer NEVER works. It crashes, Blocks sites that are apropriate like Lego.com, And prevents sites from loading. Whatever you do, DON'T get Netnanny if you want your computer to function.

2.0 out of 5 stars Subscription required or software won't work, August 27, 2011
This review is from: ContentWatch NetNanny for Mac 2.0 (CD-ROM)
After having used the product for a year I got a series of messages that my subscription was going to lapse. I didn't renew the "subscription" which I assumed the reason would only be, as they state on their website for phone support and up dates to the filters. Beware! If you don't renew the product will stop working completely. You can't use the product at all unless you pay to continue your subscription. Emails from support people at Net Nanny told me I had purchased a "subscription" not a "product". My receipt from them calls the software a "product" and never states that I was purchasing as subscription that required annual payments to them to keep the product working. The software license never states that I would be held hostage either.

Keeping up to date makes sense but there are other features that the product offers that don't require updates to their filters. I had felt that they weren't filtering everything that they should and had some issues with the product working properly. So I chose to for go renewing my subscription and found out the hard way that the product would completely quit working! Interestingly Net Nanny states that I didn't purchase a product yet the dialog box to enter my software key tells me to "Please enter the following information to serialize your copy of this PRODUCT." Dumb programmer goofed. It isn't a product it is a "subscription".

Just be ware of your future expenses with purchasing this product.
