I have been looking for a leak-proof water bottle for my son to take to school in his lunchbox. Last year we used a Klean Kanteen bottle, but despite my satisfaction with the stainless steel construction, it leaked frequently (as their website indicated it would). I first read about the Contigo Autoseal cup on a blog that raved about it being leak-proof and the reviews on Amazon.com were also almost entirely positive. Given the excellent reviews and the "100% leak-proof" claim, I tried it. Unfortunately, my son came home with a wet backpack 2 days in a row. There is no doubt that the cup does not leak if you knock it over briefly, but it cannot be left on its side in a lunch box without leaking. So I resume my hunt for a leak-proof, reusable, stainless steel-constructed cup with the goal of avoiding 13 years of 180 plastic water bottles (times 3 kids) being added to our environment...

We have tried every type of BPA free water container over the past 5 years and the Contigo is by far the best. Camelbak got us started but hated the straws and the water explodes out of them when the bottle heats up in the car. Intak by Thermos is a better choice than Camelbak, nice big opening and easiest to refill but they don't close automatically and we have had accidents. Contigo's single action push to drink and auto closing mechanism does not leak, is simple to use and clean. We recently bought the kids sizes and these have replaced all the kids sippy cups for bed time and lunch boxes. They sleep with them in their beds and they have not leaked once. Highly recommend.

I bought this mug for my grandsons who had outgrown "sippy cups", but I still didn't want to worry about spills. They are 5 and 6 years old, so were able to push the handle and drink without any problem. The stainless steel mug keeps milk cold for several hours.....even on a hot day at the beach! I have bought several as gifts! Excellent product!

All the good stuff you've read is true. AND I have to correct myself because I touted the Camel-Bak as the One and Only non-spill travel bottle. Not so, my friends, not so! This awesome bottle is not only COMPLETELY spill proof, but keeps my kid's milk cold from 8am when I pour it until 4:45pm, when she gets home. Fresh as a daisy! And yes, I read all the reviews from people saying that it's not spill-proof also and bought it anyway. I am SO glad that I did. You just need to screw the lid on really tight. Got it? Can you do that? Good, then it's spill proof and I mean it! Pushing the button to drink was a concern of mine, but guess what? The 5 yr old has no problems with it at all. LOVE this, totally worth the money!!! And, bonus alert, there aren't a bunch of valves and pieces to pull out for washing and reassemble again with water and God knows what else stuck in them. Totally simple, pure genius, buy it already.

Love this one! I've had this in my son's lunchbox for about 2 weeks now and no issues. For those who said it leaks or it gets gunked up, sure it will...IF YOU DO NOT CARE FOR IT PROPERLY!

1st - Don't tighten TOO tight. That damages the seal and will cause leakage. Tighten it hand tight but not he-man tight.
2nd - Yes, the lid can be difficult to keep clean...that is, if you don't wash it out after every use. I use hot water thru mine and have a small brush that fits into the hole on the lid and it works fine. No gunk. Now, if you are lazy and just throw it in the dishwasher and expect it to be clean, then you lose. Your fault for being lazy. Take proper care of this and it's fine. Don't and you have gunk.

I have 8 different types of their products and I have NEVER had a problem with gunk. You clean them out properly (ie take your time, use a brush that goes thru the mouth hole, every single time) and you won't have a problem.

I bought this to replace Thermos Funtainer that leaks. Well, I haven't found a good replacement yet. I bought 2 of the Contigo water bottles and really liked them. No problems at all with leakage. So I thought the stainless steel ones would be the same. Alas, I was wrong. Also, this is heavier than the Funtainers.

I bought this cup for my 4.5 year old son after receiving and loving the adult version for myself. However, this cup has not been a success and is now rarely used.

First of all, while the bottom of the cup does have a nice non-skid and bump resistant edge and one might think the wider base would be helpful to prevent tipping (and why is that considered a feature on an already spill-resistant vessel?), it's so wide that it doesn't fit in any cup holders - not in my stroller, car, purse, or diaper bag. The only way to store it for transport is upside down, which gives me pause. While it *is* leak resistant, it's not leak proof and I don't like testing it so acutely. And I am really the only person who forgets to wipe and/or vacuum out the cup holders in their car or stroller? I don't want to put that surface in contact with anyone's mouth unless it's just been cleaned, which is just not a task I can fit in every morning.

Secondly, while the diameter of the top is smaller than the adult cup and should be easier to use, the button is harder to push. My son has accidentally poured liquid all over himself and also hit himself in the teeth while trying to coordinate squeezing and drinking. But he doesn't have this problem drinking from my cup.

I would have preferred this cup be a scaled down replica of my own Contigo. But the changes made to this version, in my opinion, are all for the worse.
