I have been looking for a leak-proof water bottle for my son to take to school in his lunchbox. Last year we used a Klean Kanteen bottle, but despite my satisfaction with the stainless steel construction, it leaked frequently (as their website indicated it would). I first read about the Contigo Autoseal cup on a blog that raved about it being leak-proof and the reviews on Amazon.com were also almost entirely positive. Given the excellent reviews and the "100% leak-proof" claim, I tried it. Unfortunately, my son came home with a wet backpack 2 days in a row. There is no doubt that the cup does not leak if you knock it over briefly, but it cannot be left on its side in a lunch box without leaking. So I resume my hunt for a leak-proof, reusable, stainless steel-constructed cup with the goal of avoiding 13 years of 180 plastic water bottles (times 3 kids) being added to our environment...

We have tried every type of BPA free water container over the past 5 years and the Contigo is by far the best. Camelbak got us started but hated the straws and the water explodes out of them when the bottle heats up in the car. Intak by Thermos is a better choice than Camelbak, nice big opening and easiest to refill but they don't close automatically and we have had accidents. Contigo's single action push to drink and auto closing mechanism does not leak, is simple to use and clean. We recently bought the kids sizes and these have replaced all the kids sippy cups for bed time and lunch boxes. They sleep with them in their beds and they have not leaked once. Highly recommend.

Love this one! I've had this in my son's lunchbox for about 2 weeks now and no issues. For those who said it leaks or it gets gunked up, sure it will...IF YOU DO NOT CARE FOR IT PROPERLY!

1st - Don't tighten TOO tight. That damages the seal and will cause leakage. Tighten it hand tight but not he-man tight.
2nd - Yes, the lid can be difficult to keep clean...that is, if you don't wash it out after every use. I use hot water thru mine and have a small brush that fits into the hole on the lid and it works fine. No gunk. Now, if you are lazy and just throw it in the dishwasher and expect it to be clean, then you lose. Your fault for being lazy. Take proper care of this and it's fine. Don't and you have gunk.

I have 8 different types of their products and I have NEVER had a problem with gunk. You clean them out properly (ie take your time, use a brush that goes thru the mouth hole, every single time) and you won't have a problem.

I bought this mug for my grandsons who had outgrown "sippy cups", but I still didn't want to worry about spills. They are 5 and 6 years old, so were able to push the handle and drink without any problem. The stainless steel mug keeps milk cold for several hours.....even on a hot day at the beach! I have bought several as gifts! Excellent product!

I bought this to replace Thermos Funtainer that leaks. Well, I haven't found a good replacement yet. I bought 2 of the Contigo water bottles and really liked them. No problems at all with leakage. So I thought the stainless steel ones would be the same. Alas, I was wrong. Also, this is heavier than the Funtainers.

So this cup is great for the kiddos once they master the operation. If you're not familiar with Contigo's Autoseal bottles, they way they work is that you have to push on the side of the bottle to open up the drinking valve. For an adult it's a total non-issue. For a child, it can be difficult but once the skill is achieved, it's like they've mastered a small motor skill! If you're looking for a spillproof bottle, this is it. We've had this cup for a couple of months now and have yet to see a drop leak out even after through all the tossing and turning it goes through. We especially like using the cup for prolonged outdoor adventures. With the heat, it's a real treat for my daughter to have cold water available from her own cup.

These are a good concept, but I wouldn't buy them again for a younger child. I bought 2 of these for twin 5yr olds and as kids do, they would drop them a couple of times a week. The plastic on the lid didn't hold up well to being dropped and before long my kids stopped drinking all their milk, because they didn't like holding down the button while drinking.

I have 2 awesome CONTIGO AUTOSEAL cups for my 2 awesome children. We are constantly traveling and with our kids to see Grandma & Grandpa (car or plane rides), the Park , Beach, and our favorite hiking trail.... And we discovered that spills will happen; however, not with these cups. My kids enjoy all there favorite drinks and I dont have to worry about the mess, which makes for a very happy Mommy.
Since I use them so frequent I wash there cups by hand with a bottle scrubber and dry them asap. I Also wash them monthly with baking soda or vinegar to eliminate any chance of mold or bacteria build up since they are both safe cleansers vs Bleach and do the same job if not better for frequent use. I recommend it to all parents to do when using a sippy cup or CONTIGO AUTOSEAL cup of any kind to keep your kids and self safe and healthy.
I like that they fit in my kids car seats cup holders, we have the Britax Frontier so that assist with easy access to my little ones. My son is the youngest he is 2 and has been using this cup since he was 18 months he has a good grip and can handle this cup with ease. My daughter who is 4 has been using this cup since she was 2 and a ½ and she also could handle the cup with ease. I did have to teach them both to use as it was a change from there previous cups, it took 2 or three times before they got it themselves but after that they were pro.
I recommend them to all my friends with or without children as they make them for adults too :) overall no complaints from me, and I would buy them again! Hope this helps all the parents out there who are travelers like me :)
