Product Description

Color: Cobalt

The AUTOSPOUT Addison Water Bottle features a one-touch-button spout release for convenient one-handed drinking. A spout shield protects the spout from dirt and debris when not in use. Note : When using the water bottle at high altitudes, such as during an airplane flight or when bottle is exposed to prolonged hot temperatures, such as in an enclosed car, twist the lid a quarter turn to relieve pressure, then reseal the lid before use.

In the past I have used Contigo for their spill proof coffee cups, but had stuck with Nalgene for their water bottles. This first experiment with Contigo's water bottles has gone very well for me. I like the simplicity and open-mouthed drinking style of the Nalgene bottles, but when it comes to spill resistance, this Contigo bottle can't be beat.

Usability. This bottle is very easy to operate and to clean. The complicated lid does not translate to a complicated user experience. My only complaint in this area is that the straw sometimes comes dislodged from the lid, which means that you either have to reach in to fix it, or drink out of it like a straw-less bottle. The latter wouldn't be too bad, but the vent makes some weird noises when you do that. The straw doesn't come out frequently enough for this to be a huge issue, but it is definitely an area that they could improve on.

Durability. The seals on the top and the drinking spout seem like they will have to be replaced pretty frequently, but as of now, at one week's use, the entire bottle is still like brand new. The bottle itself is made of high-quality, dishwasher safe, BPA-free plastic. I think that this bottle is of similar quality to its competitors, with the only thing that might hurt its durability is the complexity of the top's design.

Taste. Nothing in this bottle affects the taste of the water at all. It tastes the same way coming out as it did going out, even after sitting in it for a while.

Design/Style. This bottle is attractive and functional. It fits well in cup holders and is easy to hold and drink from.

Overall I recommend this bottle a lot, if you are looking for a straw-type drinking method. If you prefer open top designs, Nalgene is still the way to go in my opinion.

I recently bought a 3 pack of these bottles at Costco, using a store credit for a gift return. I thought that the flip-up bottle spout was pretty cool, and my trusty old Camelbak bottle had just died on me. I thought the bottle worked pretty well until the first time it sprayed water all over me in my car. After it soaked me a second time, I decided action must be taken to fix the problem.

The problem, upon closer inspection, is this. The bottle top contains a vent in the cap, which allows air to enter the bottle as you sip water out through the straw. Without such a vent, you'd eventually create enough of a vacuum in the bottle that you wouldn't be able to suck any more water out. However, it does not allow air out of the bottle. As a result, the bottle can accumulate large positive air pressures if you drink from it while it's cold in the morning and then let it sit until the weather warms up later in the day. (For those of you who remember basic chemistry, an increase in temperature on a closed container, all other things held constant, results in a proportionally large increase in air pressure.) Given a large amount of extra air pressure in the bottle, upon pressing the button to open the mouthpiece, the system attempts to equalize pressure by forcing water up the straw and onto your lap at high speed.

After several attempts to fix the problem, I wound up just removing the black rubber stopper for the air vent. This allows air to enter and leave the bottle, so I won't get squirted again, but it also means that my bottles are no longer fully watertight if inverted. I figure that should be good enough for most car trips.

I would say buy a Camelbak bottle instead, or any other sport bottle which doesn't have a straw.

Not only is this a beautifully designed Sports bottle, it's surprisingly functional.

First, the vibrant blue color is MUCH, much prettier than in its online photo; it almost looks like deep blue glass (I have to say, it actually made me thirsty when I took it out of the box. Subliminal suggestion? Could be.)

There's a gradated ounce/ml scale on the front of the bottle (8oz, 250 ml, 16 oz, 500 ml, 24 oz) so you can visually encourage yourself to drink more during your workout. The width of the bottle is perfect for easy, comfortable gripping & the BPA-free plastic is fairly rigid & not flimsy in the least. The bottle nestles perfectly in my car's console & in my treadmill's drinkholder.

The screw-on top has a handle for easy carrying & a great looking blue rubberized gripping accent with contigo (the brand name) in high relief.

But best of all is its spill-proof, leak proof siliconized drinking spout. When you're not using it, it retracts into the screw-on top with a simple press downward. When you're ready to drink, just push the oval button on the front of the top & the drinking spout pops up. Instead of having to tip this bottle up to drink (like you would with bottled water), you just drink through the siliconized drinking spout, like you'd drink a cool glass of lemonade through a straw.

The top of the bottle is large enough to easily accommodate ice cubes, so you can keep whatever you choose to drink nice & cold. The bottle's straw is large enough to let you comfortably & easily sip, even during an intense workout & it's so "cushiony" it doesn't rub your teeth or hit your tongue while you're running. Big, big plus in my book. Plus, it's dishwasher safe (though I'll hand wash mine).

I never knew a water bottle could be elegantly designed, but this one most definitely is. Highly recommended for its design, function, & beauty; a real winner!
