2 versions - Foam and Vacuum Insulated, January 24, 2008
This review is from: Contigo Stainless Steel Double Wall Tumbler with Caribineer Clip (Kitchen)
Hi,
I have three of these mugs. Two of them came directly from a Starbucks store. One came from Bed, Bath and Beyond and was labeled Contigo. Other than the name these are outwardly the same mug. Both mugs from Starbucks will keep coffee out of a standard coffee maker hot for several hours. It is still warm after lunch. The Contigo mug will not keep coffee hot for more than half an hour. You can feel the difference in the mugs right after pouring in the coffee. The Starbucks mugs are cool or slightly warm to the touch but the Contigo gets very warm to hot to the touch.
After speaking with Contigo I found that there are indeed two versions. Most retailers opt to sell the lower quality Foam insulated mug. According to Contigo the only retailer currently selling the vacuum insulated mug is Costco (and a few ebay resellers). Contigo will be setting up an Ecommerce site to sell their products direct. The vacuum mugs should be available in late Feb (25th or later). If you purchase at another retailer you can tell the more superior vacuum insulated mug by the packaging. If it doesn't say "Vacuum Insulated" it is the Foam version.
I love the style of the mug, it's durability and it's functionality but will only buy the Vacuum Insulated version from now on.
Adam

Very Popular with the Nuclear Submarine Force, December 7, 2006
This review is from: Contigo Stainless Steel Double Wall Tumbler with Caribineer Clip (Kitchen)
First came across the "Extreme Tumbler" while in drydock. One of the shift engineers had a Starbucks version. Since then there has been a slow but steady war against all other coffee mugs. There are five of them in my division alone.
They survive deployments. They survive angles and dangles, periodic trips through a steam sanitizer, and the roving khaki stow-for-sea brigade unceremoniously throwing them into random lockers. They don't leak. They hold enough liquid and heat to last the whole watch.
When one of them was finally broken recently (after three years of abuse and a 25' drop) it was the subject of much curiousity. Sans handle, it's still in use, of course.

Best Coffee Mug out there. Period., January 24, 2007
This review is from: Contigo Stainless Steel Double Wall Tumbler with Caribineer Clip (Kitchen)
I've always been on a search to find the best coffee mug that includes all the features that serious coffee drinkers are looking for:
1. Keeps the beverage hot for hours.
2. When sealed, it does not leak at all.
3. Easy to drink from and dribble-free.
4. Suitable for right and left hand drinkers.
5. Fits into most car cup holders.
6. Clips to straps/loops/handles to carry easily, even when filled.
7. Easy to clean and stays stain/smell free.
8. Rubber accents provide non-slip grips and doesn't make a clanking noise when the mug is set down on the conference table.
9. High quality construction for durability.
10. It looks really cool!
This mug has with out a doubt ended my search for the perfect coffee mug. I look at all others now and laugh because they pale in comparison to this mug. Finally, a company has created the ultimate coffee mug for even the most demanding user. This is a fantastic mug and is definitely worth the price.
