I wanted to love this mug sooo much, but it was just average. The mug looks beautiful and very attractive, and it's pleasant to sip out of WITHOUT the top on. With the top on you basically have to suck the liquid out, since there's no air vent. But the most detrimental thing for this mug is that the ceramic appears to be VERY thin. When I'd put hot tea or coffee in it, the ceramic top would get hot-to-the-touch almost instantly. Lastly, telling you not to drop this thing would be an understatement. I didn't drop mine from any height, it literally just was tipped over onto its side and cracked!

I absolutely love my Contigo travel mugs... but their foray into desk mugs is pretty average at best.

I do like this ceramic coated stainless steel insulated coffee mug for my morning coffee. As far as the lid I tried drinking out of the cup with it on and found that without a vent the coffee flow was restricted. I drilled a 1/8" hole on the opposite side of the lid as I had noted in a previously written review and that helped but my lips can only take so much of the heat that is transmitted to the plastic lid. Personally I don't trust a lid that just slips on top of a mug. So my next action I took was to remove the plastic lid and use the mug without the lip-burner. I find that the Contigo Thermo Ceramic 14-Ounce Desk Mug works best for me if I add hot water to the cup and let it set while brewing my coffee to get the cup heated up. The coffee stays fairly hot to my last sip. I also find that the handle is user friendly and cool to the touch. I find that the base of the cup is also user friendly with the furniture as it is cushioned with a rubberized material and protects against heat transfer although I still use a coaster from habit (wife enforced). I am pleased with this coffee mug and would recommend it to anyone looking for a coffee cup.

I really like this cup yet, like others, found the lid hard to drink from. I corrected this drilling a 1/16 inch hole in the lid opposite the opening. This allowed an entrance for air allowing the liquid to free flow. It is no longer spill resistant, but much more drinkable.

I bought 1 of these because the picture looks nice. Now that I have it, I don't like it.
- The porcelain makes it too heavy. Empty it's 1lb .4oz. With 12oz of liquid in it, it weighs almost 2 lbs.
- the handle is too small. I wear ladies 7 gloves & can only get 3 fingers in the handle.
- you have to drink carefully from the lid or it will dribble. Probably needs an air-hole drilled across from the opening like others have said, but I'm not going to use it, so won't bother doing it.

At the same time I ordered this mug, I ordered a Trudeau SS Donoti desk mug. It's double-walled, weighs only 8.8 oz empty, is the same height, 5 3/8", & holds 15oz of liquid. The lid on the Trudeau fits more securely & is closeable, & has a larger tab making it easier to remove. Both have non-skid bottoms, require hand-washing & are not microwaveable.

I love my Contigo travel mugs and thought this desk mug would be a good choice for home use. It is not. The top has a TINY hole to drink through and the mug doesn't keep my coffee any warmer than a heavy ceramic cup. I am very disappointed with this product.

Like another reviewer I wanted to adore this mug. I sip coffee; takes me a while so I wanted to keep it hot. It did fairly well. I didn't mind that it was ugly, unwieldy and a bit hard to store. I didn't even mind the white porcelain rim getting hot. (That's like complaining your coffee at McDonald's is hot...wth?)

BUT the rim drips constantly when you take a sip, with or without the lid and even worse, it started leaking from the bottom and in less than 2 months after purchase, rendering it unusable. It was never in a dishwasher, only hand washed. It has never been out of the house since I work from home. It was only used about 3 days a week. Inside the china is cracked and the rubber on the bottom must not be to well sealed to the metal of the cup. So, leakage...

I never review stuff but I realized after this incident that it really is a public service. Save the $15. I would have given this "0" stars if I could have.

ETA: I mentioned in my original review the problems with the lid and I noticed right after I submitted my review that the lid on the cup I got doesn't look like the one in the picture at all. Mine is flat with a little indention where your lip would touch. I guess the bigger indention on the lid in the photo might take care of the smooshed nose when drinking from a half filled mug, but it also looks like it would allow even less coffee in the cup.

I'm a huge fan of Contigo's travel cups. I love drinking from white ceramic. And if I can get something in stainless steel I am happy. This mug seemed to good to be true. Unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype I had built up in my mind waiting for it to arrive. It's close, but needs to be tweaked.

When holding on to a heavy ceramic and steel mug full of hot coffee you want to be sure you have a good grip. I'm an average sized person with average sized hands and the handle just doesn't have room enough for me to get a comfortably firm three finger grip. Two fingers fit fine but this mug has some heft to it so being able to really get a good hold on the handle is important. It isn't the size of the handle so much as the shape I think. Maybe if it were a little less round.

The lid, while not meant to render the mug spill proof, is a clever idea that may actually work the way it was intended if it was paired with a larger mug. In order to use the mug with the lid you have to make sure to not fill the cup up too far. In order for the lid to allow a smooth flow of liquid out the cup practically has to be half empty.
