5.0 out of 5 stars Large Capacity . . . Tight Seal . . . Adequate Heat Retention
1. I drink about 16 to 20 fl oz of coffee a day. Most of the insulated coffee mugs hold only 12 fl oz (or less). This one holds a full 16 fl oz because of its good design -- the cover screws to the top of the canister and none of it sits below the level of the rim. This distinguishes it from a product like the Highwave Original Ultimate Travel Mug (which I also own)...

2.0 out of 5 stars Worked well for a year, then turned useless
Bought three of these from target when they came out at $22/ea. They were awesome at first, but after about a year, all three stopped holding a seal and the lids wouldn't tighten anymore. Contacted the manufacturer & they offered no support. Can't recommend a product that fails after a year and doesn't have any customer support.

1. I drink about 16 to 20 fl oz of coffee a day. Most of the insulated coffee mugs hold only 12 fl oz (or less). This one holds a full 16 fl oz because of its good design -- the cover screws to the top of the canister and none of it sits below the level of the rim. This distinguishes it from a product like the Highwave Original Ultimate Travel Mug (which I also own). The Highwave is a good product, but it only holds 12 fl oz (if that). This is because part of the cover for the Highwave sits inside the mug and below the rim, taking up valuable "real estate" that could be used to hold coffee.

2. Although the seal looks like it will not keep tight if the mug is transported into a briefcase or backpack, this is deceptive. I found that the mug did not leak at all when it was tossed about in my messenger bag. Full disclosure: I've only had it for a few weeks, so time will tell. But so far, it has withstood lots of jostling.

3. The mug did not keep coffee as hot for as long as the Highwave, but it did keep java hot for several hours, which is more than adequate for my purpose.

4. I take the subway to work and don't own a car, so I'm not sure whether it will fit in a standard-sized cupholder, but I suspect that the manufacturer's claim that it will is correct.

5. The shape of the mug, the autoseal function, and the hole for sipping are all great design elements. The shape is ergonomic--it fits my hand and the autoseal button is precisely where it needs to be. There is no danger of spilling it on your shirt when you drink, because you don't have to tip it high enough for the liquid to clear a "well" in the top of the mug (like the Highwave) -- the hole to sip is flush with the top of the cup. And the manufacturer is right -- there is no sputtering. Whomever designed this thing did his homework. Plus, it looks cool, no?

I am extremely happy with this purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good mug, with one exception, August 9, 2007

I like the mug, it keeps my coffee warm and spill-free. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 instead of a 5 is for something you don't think about with a sealed mug - it builds up pressure when the air inside warms up. If you pour hot coffee in, I'd suggest you vent the mug a few times in the next 10 minutes, because once the air gets hot and you vent it to drink, it can shoot hot water vapor out the vent. It's not unsafe, it just makes the mug a little weird. Everything else about it is great, I look the look, and it fits perfectly in my car's not-huge cupholders.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worked great...for a year, August 28, 2008

This mug worked great for about a year. Then, the push button started to go bad and the rubber seal actually broke down and disintegrated into the coffee one day.

I never put this through the dishwasher and only wash it in hot water with soap, usually 5 days a week. It still works, but it is no longer spill proof.

This mug is great. It is the only true no spill mug. I wish it was slightly bigger, but the size perfectly holds a cup of coffee.

5.0 out of 5 stars great design, September 9, 2007

the product itself is awsome.. the buttom seems right (i could see that is better push it in the upper part, cos have no support in the lower one and eventually could break), and keeps the cold perfect!(i want it for cold drinks.) i did a test.. at 12 pm i put some ices inside and closed it. the next morning, 9 am, the ice was still there! and in the afternoon the warter was still pretty dam cold... one thing.. after you take the surb, keep pressing the button for a while, so the liquid drain trough the hole and then unpress it.. if you dont do this, the liquid will be clogged in the tinny hole and eventually drop from it (a little) and it'll spit your clothe :S, other than that is a great great mug (much better than oxo) a great looks.. is perfect!

3.0 out of 5 stars Is it just me..., August 17, 2008
This review is from: Contigo West Loop Travel Mug 16 Oz, Sliver (Sports)
First the good stuff - It keeps the coffee hot and inside the mug until you press the button. I think it's absurd that some reviewers are complaining the mug seals so well that pressure builds up. If it didn't then it wouldn't but that's essentially why you bought it so it does. (I think I did that right)

Now the bad part, for me anyway. It appears the cup (lid actually) contributes a rubbery taste to the coffee. I've used the cup several times and washed it in between uses. Doesn't seem to fix the problem. When I use a Nissan mug that extra bit of flavoring is gone. I'm hoping it will go away in time because otherwise this is an excellent product.

This mug has everything I like. Keeps coffee hot for hours. Easiest to use. This is my second one. I left my first one at my mother's house and she won't give it back.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best thermal mug ever (almost), June 17, 2008
This review is from: Contigo West Loop Travel Mug 16 Oz, Sliver (Sports)
This is easily the best thermal mug I've ever owned with one major exception, that I'll get to in a moment. I've gone through about half-a-dozen thermal mugs in the last 5 years. Mostly I'm interested in something that doesn't spill easily (I don't usually drive while I'm drinking, so it's not critical that it be completely spill-proof) and can keep my drink hot for at least a few hours. As others have mentioned it keeps drinks hot for more than adequate time to drink it (I mean, honestly, who needs 4 hours to drink one cup of coffee?). I have had little to no incidents of spills or leaks. There has been occasion for liquid to leak from the seal around the lid but I'm certain that has more to do with my overfilling the cup than from any design flaw. I have not experienced the issue with the threading of the lid but I can see how that might happen. It does take more than the usual strength to close the lid tight, but once it's closed it's closed for good.

Now to that exception I mentioned earlier. My daily drink of choice is hot tea with a fair amount of cream and sugar (alright, it's usually about 1/4 cup and 4 spoonfuls. What are you my mother?!). As such, there is ample opportunity for residual tea/cream/sugar to work its way into the myriad of crevices in the lid. Without a doubt this is the most impossible lid I have ever tried to clean. Unfortunately, with my concoction, cleaning it in the dishwasher just doesn't cut it. I need to clean it by hand and usually spend 5-10 minutes of my morning getting into those crevices with the smallest implement I can find in the office. Still, there has been more than one occasion when I have been unable to see a small bit of cream lodged under the lid until it has grown to the size of someone's minor sinus infection (sorry, I know that was gross). The creativity involved in getting into all those crevices has required the use of some fairly non-standard cleaning tools (e.g. paperclips, allan wrenches, very sharp knives, etc). I'm certain this particular situation is by no means universal. But if you are one who likes similar drinks in your mug you should prepare yourself for some acrobatic cleaning of the lid. And god forbid you forget to clean your mug for a few days. Let's just say, you probably don't want to eat before you approach the task. However, with all that in mind, I would certainly buy this mug again and recommend it highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm buying another one, this mug RULES!, May 31, 2008
This review is from: Contigo West Loop Travel Mug 16 Oz, Sliver (Sports)
This mug is truly leak-proof, even when held completely upside-down or thrown in a bag. Keeps hot liquids hot for several hours, and for someone who likes their coffee/tea at a slightly cooler temp, this is sometimes inconvienient for me, but mostly it's great to know I can set it aside for awhile (like at work) and my coffee/tea will still be steaming when I get back to it. Comfy to hold, 16 oz. size holds a medium beverage at most coffeehouses, so in that respect I sometimes wish it were bigger, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in complete un-leak-ability. If you use this mug for tea, make sure you do not leave the tea-string hanging outside the mug because that does disturb the seal and it's not entirely leak-proof anymore (but still completely functional for normal upright use, just don't throw it on your carseat or in your bag and expect complete dryness if you leave that tea-string hanging out), and also, if you happen to fancy soy lattes as I do, the sooner you get the cap of the mug cleaned out, the better. I found when left overnight, the residual latte dried to the mechanism inside the lid and was more diffcult to clean. I don't know if this would interfere with the function of the mug, I just don't happen to like the idea of drinking out of something with yesterday's drink still caked on it, you know? I've never had an issue with the cap not screwing on correctly, the threads seem to line up fine first try every time. And over all, I feel great using a mug that is almost entirely recyclable and bringing it into shops with me knowing I'm not contributing to deforestation and the waste associated with lesser cups. I'm buying one for my husband right now, he's completely jealous of my Contigo mug!
