Meshuggah, Crowbar, Pantera, Hatebreed, Mastodon, Eyehategod, The Melvins, Anthrax, Converge, Unearth, Biohazard, Morbid Angel, and Black Flag. All of which are influences utilized by Massachusetts own The Acacia Strain for the band's fourth long-player, 2008's "Continent." Reading between the lines, the record melds together elements of Southern sludge and doom metal with Northern-inspired American hard/mosh/metalcore to create one very bludgeoning piece of music, and one that is sure to have fists pumping and heads banging across every corner of this toilet earth. It is rooted in drop-tuned riffs that weigh a ton, but its frequent use of mathematically-calculated polyrhythms and a beefy bottom end (comprised of machine-gun drumming, and memorable, crunching bass grooves) play an equally-as-important role in the music, here. And a particularly gnarly guitar tone also helps to drive the point home.

A slamming, bullying, commanding assault of visceral, tough guy vocals, big, chunky breakdowns, booming rhythms, and kick-to-the-head power chords makes "Skynet" the moving set opener that it is. And, needless to say, it is one that is clearly made for moshing. From this hardcore-oriented intro, though, the number then locks into a straightforward, heads-down, propulsive groove with thrashy, chainsaw picking and nearly monstrous vocals. And seemingly picking up right where this number left off, "Seaward" switches back and forth between up-tempo sections (comprised of blistering tempos and biting, rumbling guitar/bass lines) and doomy, plodding breakdowns very deftly and smoothly. And heck, the song even tosses in a little NYCH-derived chugging, just for good measure, too.

The deceptively-entitled "Dr.

If you're like me and felt a little ripped off when listening to "Dead Walk" or "3750", then I can empathize. To much filler, not enough killer.

My favorite release from these guys was there debut "...And Life is Very Long". If you haven't had the pleasure, then pleasure yourself with it soon!
"Continent" is the best release since their 1st CD. Full of mid-paced chaos. I like the snippet of Meshuggah they have incorperated into their sound. It seems they have set the bar on slowcore, and I've heard many bands trying to do this, but they are unoriginal and boring. The Acacia Strain really take it up a notch and kick a** with "Continent".

Buy this CD if you think you like Metalcore. The weak shall fall away and The Acacia Strain will be standing above the dying with their bloodied swords in hand.

Im getting to the punchline first. This album is a 5 out of 5. If you are angry at the world for whatever reason, like hardcore music, and crushing songs, this is for you. This has become my favorite record since 2008. I bought it on a wim because i loved the artwork and a reccomendation from my record store owner. one of the best decisions I made. This record for me has been there when no one else has. it embodies how I feel about everything in the world regarding society, love, anger. This album changes lives. look up the lyrics and learn them. without a doubt one of my favorite albums. only 1 thing, if you believe in a god do not pick this up. this is a severe anti god band. but yeah. otherwise must own.

This is more than I hoped for.It will make you want to kill your neighbors.Vincent Bennett has really set himself apart from the herd. His vocals are a steady growl of pure hate. The surprise instrumental ending this release"The Behemoth",is both brutal and beautiful at the same time.BUY THIS NOW OR I'll tear you apart....

Another yet flawless release for TAS. They will never cease to amaze me. They actually have songs that reach 3 or 4 minutes in length haha. not that it mattered but they kind of shut up some haters saying that all their songs are too short and what not. ball crunching breakdowns, catchy riffs, gnarly vocals. it has it all. buy it.
