5.0 out of 5 stars Peter Allen's best album
This is Peter Allen's best album, although it has to be said that it is the least representative of what he was like on stage. On stage he was irrepressible and buoyant. 3.0 out of 5 stars Great But Listing is not Complete
After doing two albums on a minor label (one which has been transferred to CD), Peter Allen recorded this unique album featuring his own version of "I Honestly Love You" which he wrote for Olivia Newton John.
In addition to the major artists there's a full orchestra and a chorus as well. "Everything Old is New Again" is a classic!

5.0 out of 5 stars Peter Allen's best album, October 14, 2008
This review is from: Continental American (Audio CD)
This is Peter Allen's best album, although it has to be said that it is the least representative of what he was like on stage. On stage he was irrepressible and buoyant. Here the production is quiet, toned-down, low-key. But he never bettered the songwriting here, which is deeply personal, witty, unique, and sometimes sardonic. "Continental American" is a gorgeous lookback at his youthful club days. "Pretty Pretty" is a biting look at a queen who finds himself growing older and consequently no longer the belle of the ball. (In my mind, I can hear Dietrich tackling either of them, and doing a splendid job.) The second version of "Just A Gigolo" features the legendary Francis Faye singing in her trademark off-key manner. After this album, Peter began trying for a more commercial sound and the songwriting became less personal. Here he seems to trust himself more, and not worry about chart positions and album sales. BUY IT and enjoy!
