Book Description

August 1, 1999
The book lists GPS coordinates for over 8500 points in the States of Colorado, Montana, New Mexico and Wyoming. Special attention is given to the features that make the mountain country so interesting. Over 530 mountain summits are listed with elevation, along with over 400 passes and 290 waterfalls.

The points are listed in Degrees and Minutes like this: DD-MM.MM, and most include elevation. They are organized alphabetically with separate book sections for each State.

The book is meant to supply the information that is MISSING from travel guides and most maps. That, of course is GPS coordinates. It is compact enough to carry in a backpack or map case, measuring just 5.25" x 4.0" and just under 1 inch thick.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

The Continental Divide Companion is the seventh book in the series and was published in November, 1999. It contains listings for Colorado, (2401 points) Montana, (2497 points) New Mexico, (2420 points) and Wyoming, (1243 points) each in its own section. Helpful hints tailored to the region are included. Plus, our bonus "Points Around the USA" section lists a few major points from each of the 50 States.

The Companions list Latitude, Longitude and in most cases elevation for thousands of named points of interest.

It is comprehensive! A typical Colorado road map will list about 600 cities and towns in its index. The GPS Companion lists 1492 towns in its Colorado section! The Continental Divide book contains over 8500 locations in all, on 425 pages.

It is readable! The index of a road map is printed in condensed 5 point type. The GPS Companion is printed in 9 point courier type.

Elevations are included for every location possible; over 5900 in all. Of course all of the 303 airports are listed with elevation. And there are 537 mountain summits and 401 passes with elevation as well.

Here is a summary of the points included. Airports 303, Archaeological sites 47, Battlefields 12, Buildings, misc. 23, Cape, Islands, etc. 13, Cities & towns 4912, Dams 29 Geysers 14, Golf Courses 152, Historic sites 195, Lookouts 68, Locale, misc. 294, Museums 126, Natural bridge (arch) 50, Observatories 7, Ridge, cliff 76, State & Nat'l Parks 121, Pass or Gap 401, Pillar (Rock) 134, University, College 46, Ski Areas 87, Summit 537, Tower (lookout) 49, Waterfalls 292
