protection from what?,

This review is from: Continental Mountain King Tire - Protection Black Chili (Sports)
I like this tire, really it's nice and grippy and not too noisy on paved roads. And it can climb. boy, can it climb.But "protection"? Not so much. I honestly sought out this tire because i thought it was advertised as thorn resistant. What else does protection mean? On my first ride with this tire, I got several thorns. I added Mr. tuffy tire liners. I go on another ride, accidentally hit a nest of puncture vines along the side of the road, and end up with more than 60 thorns in each tire. I forgot how many tube holes i had to patch, i think it was about 4 punctures on the Mt. King PROT with Mr Tuffy. Obviously I'm very disappointed in the Mountain King and the Mr Tuffy's. Update 12/19/2011 This tire lasted about 250 miles, most of that on paved roads between my house and the trailheads. I retired it (heh) after the nobbies wore down to little bumps and climbing turned into "stationary biking". Overlooking the lack of actual thorn "protection", the tire performed reasonably well, especially climbing on the dirt trails. I'm certainly not an expert rider, and any lack of performance around hairpin turns or through rock gardens or over slick roots should be put on me, not the Mountain King. So all in all it's a good tire. Don't expect much tread life on pavement and don't expect antigravity rays to shoot out the sidewalls.

Bought these after a friend recommended them to me. I was reluctant due to the price but they were well worth it. They grip to everything and greatly improved my climbs in the loose stuff. If I had the money I would of gotten the tubeless version.

Awful tire,

I purchased this tire for its intended purpose (mountain biking) and it exploded on my second ride because of its awful construction. This tire is not appropriate for mountain biking. Maybe on the road it's ok but it doesn't hold up for what it advertises.
I tried to return it but the vendor wouldn't accept it because he said I used it for its unintended purpose. Stay away! Continental makes awful car and bike tires. I only had bad experiences with them. I'm back to using WTBs ExiWolf's and I couldn't be happier. They're bulletproof compared to this junk. 2115|R1LATUO1LKMDUY;2115|R2H90V5ACWH86C;2115|R1L040P4L4GBJ5;
