Great range of creative styles and original cables,

I love Cables Untangled, and this book is even better - the cables are amazing and really different. As always with Melissa's books, the instructions are very clear and easily understood. I can't wait to make the hoodie on the cover and the man's pattern on the back cover is one of the nicest patterns for a guy that I have ever seen. The stitch dictionary in the back will be a great resource. Those cables are really something.

Love the book, but there are some mistakes...,

I received this book for Xmas, and was so excited that I opened it early and immediately started knitting. I love the patterns and am incredibly happy with my new, closed circle cabled hat. Only one thing prevents me from giving this book 5 stars.
I'm relatively new to knitting, so when I first spotted the mistake, I thought that perhaps I was simply misunderstanding the pattern. Closer examination proved that I was right. In the pattern chart, there is a symbol with three prongs facing downward on the left, upward on the right. The only "matching" symbol in the key on the same page is one with the prongs facing upward on the left, upward on the right. I was able to figure out what was going on by going to the master key in the front of the book, but was disappointed by the poor proofing. Carefully double check all of the symbols in each chart and match them against the symbols in the master key before you pick up your needles.

I have just received this book this afternoon, and have only read through it, no projects yet. There are some lovely unique patterns, from easy to advanced, including some gorgeous pillows and throws. The instructions look very clear, and the last half of the book is a cable stitch dictionary, which has some brand new cables which I have not seen before. This is a big, glossy book, with some outstanding sweater patterns, including the hoodie on the cover, a little something nice called the Swirl Pullover, and a beautiful man's sweater called Tweed Boyfriend sweater, which may be for this girlfriend instead, as these men's patterns are unisex. These are the things I plan to make, there are some patterns here that I am not crazy about, but that is my personal taste. Melissa Leapman has included ample instructions for newcomers trying cables for the first time, as well as more difficult work for more experienced knitters. Give it a try if it is something new for you, this is an excellent place to start. The book is well laid out and looks to me like it has something for everyone, and should have very wide appeal. I don't think you can go wrong with this book, you are sure to find a lot to like.

Blue Duck/ I found this book to have the most extensive cable charts and new additions that I have ever seen. It demonstrates that a technique like cabling should not be feared, but one should jump in with both feet and enjoy. It offers patterns from easy for people new to cable knit work with some very new advanced designs. The intent is to relax when cabling and stretch out to designing cable patterns yourself. Great book and well worth the price.

I love this book. I was wary at first being as knitting cables seem complex. Knitting and assembling garment is labor intensive already without adding the extra work. Even when I opened the book I knew I'd made a good purchase. I've already knit three patterns from the author's designs, and using what I've learned about cables and using the principles of this book, I've made several mini projects of my own design.
I'm not bragging, I'm what I call an experienced beginner, meaning that I knit very well using some techniques and fare horribly with others. Melissa Leapman (author) is so good with her style of writing that I felt she was my teacher in the same room! The basics of cable knitting, closed-ring cables, and cable motifs are all covered in this book. There are several complicated stitch patterns and sequences, but the detailed instruction along with PERFECT illustrations are included in the beginning part of the book! There are only a few patterns I will not be using in this book. Cables are bulky and a few of her patterns put cables on already boxy and shapeless skirts or tunics. For the perfect figure with a perfect salary (with which to buy fine yarns), these are probably great projects, but not for me. I am also going to lengthen a few of the patterns to hip length as this length is more flattering and usually warmer. I strongly recommend this book for anyone who wants to master the art of cable knitting or who wants to use the already present skill to expand their wardrobe and home decor. There are 7 Home Decor patterns (pillows, throws, afghans, etc.) 10 sweater and garment patterns and several accessories patterns including a charming cabled purse.

Advanced cables for flexible thinkers,
By Colleen E. Humphreys "Textiles and Kids!" (Concord, MA United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Continuous Cables: An Exploration of Knitted Cabled Knots, Rings, Swirls, and Curlicues (Hardcover)
This is a fascinating book, but only for those who are flexible of thought! The cables are all charts. It is ridiculously difficult to write, proof, and knit complicated cables from written directions, and you cannot to see if you are on track mid-cable without charts. The charts also enable you to spot any mistakes (in the directions or in your own work!) and modify the cables for new designs.
There are many unique symbols, not all patterns have all the symbols used in the local key. Anything not listed, check the main key. I found one motif (19, the musical note) with serious mistakes...the increases were one square to the left, and many of the grey "no stitch" squares were missing. But despite that, it was relatively easy to fix (because the math didn't add up, I just looked at a similar chart and fixed it to match) and I made the motif with no trouble. These are mostly not all-over traditional cables. They are fancy closed loop cables using new techniques...nothing like the cabled sweaters our grandmother made! They look far harder than they are to execute. My musical note washcloth piano-teacher present took me about 2 hours the morning of the last piano class. What could be better? It even came out ok in cotton! I'd have given this book 5 stars, if I could have found an errata page from the publisher, preferably with a Ravelry link.

worth its weight in gold,
This review is from: Continuous Cables: An Exploration of Knitted Cabled Knots, Rings, Swirls, and Curlicues (Hardcover)
I bought this book because I was very intrigued by the idea of continuous cables and using them to make celtic knots and designs in my knitting. When I received this book, it blew me away! It is eye candy visually, and the techniques are innovative to say the least. Pages and pages of knots, designs and curlicues are charted right out for use. I am so excited and so pleased with the purchase! I feel that it is a detailed exploration of an awesome idea!

I picked up this book because I was hoping for just some cable patters that I could add to my own projects. This book hit the mark! It's got panels, boarders and motifs! There are even a few projects within the book in case you want to knit something that's already designed.
Totally worth the price of the book!

Knitting libraries must have this,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Continuous Cables: An Exploration of Knitted Cabled Knots, Rings, Swirls, and Curlicues (Hardcover)
CONTINUOUS CABLES: AN EXPLORATION OF KNITTED CABLED KNOTS, RINGS, SWIRLS, AND CURLICUES provides a different view of cable knitting possibilities: one which tells how to create circular, closed-ring shapes with cables. The resulting rings, swirls and knots differ from the usual cable knit designs, providing knitters with a fine collection of versatile, unusual projects and patterns and profiling over 80 original individual stitch patterns - many designed just for this book. Knitting libraries must have this.
