A whole useful book for the price of a magazine,
By A Customer
This review is from: Continuous Line Quilting Designs: Especially for Machine Quilting (Paperback)
I bought this design book online as an inexpensive Secret Santa gift. She is not getting it! Initially I was underwhelmed on opening the book. Each continuous line design is drawn on what looks like 1/4" square graph paper. On further examination I decided that this could be really useful for resizing the designs. The introduction contains a generous amount of practical how to information, unusual in a design book as opposed to a how to book. In my opinion, those six pages alone would be worth the purchase price. I found that each and every one of the 86 designs has its own "StitcherEase" tip, a clearly marked design repeat and most importantly, shows how to turn the corner with the design. There are flowing curved designs, and sharp geometrics, simple and complex ones. Many of the designs would be lovely used in the borders of a quilt which had an overall or meandering design in the center. This book is an inexpensive, excellent and inspirational resource for anyone who would like to learn how to mark and machine quilt their own tops.

Handy book saves on buying expensive templates,

I really liked this book and found it quite handy. The designs are easy to resize, and you can make your own templates a lot cheaper than buying them. There are also little tips included, including the best one: the templates that you make don't have to be perfect because the imperfections will disappear when you stitch. Hooray!

I found this book to be very helpful. It does a good job of outlining how to machine quilt as well as showing some very good patterns for quilting. it is written in clear, easy to follow directions. I am very pleased to have the patterns to make templets. Good buy.

This book focuses on borders and the patterns are on a grid so they are easy to transfer. Good basic designs for your library. This is not a book for the expert. Great for those of us starting out. Can't beat the price.

Dover's Continuous Line Quilting Designs Especially for Machine Quilting, is a truly terrific book. Although the picture on the front is a little dated and this book was originally printed in 1984, these patterns are classics, and this publication offers so much more that the continuous line patterns. There are 86 patterns, including border and all over patterns in geometrics, florals and so forth. It covers subjects such as advice on combining patterns, and fitting them to your specifications, resizing and fitting around squeezy corners. These patterns are designed for continual flow without too many stops and starts. There is an extensive explanation in easy to understand terms on how to use the book to gain the most from the publication.

I should have heeded the critical reviewer's statement.
These are very basic designs that are available in many places on the internet for free. No new insights. I don't even want to resell my copy because I feel it would be a disservice to the subsequent buyer.

Just a bunch of patterns...oh, well. I was expecting a little bit more. Would have liked to see more instruction with the walking foot.

This book was pretty much a waste of time. Most of the patterns are available on the internet. What was I thinking? |
