Grammy-winner Clare Fischer fans are in for a treat this month. Two new albums!
...And Sometimes Instruments features Fischer's vocal and Latin Jazz ensembles and Continuum, his Big Band. Both albums are produced and directed by Brent Fischer and available here at Amazon.
Good musical arrangement, like architecture, is successful when people enjoy living with it or visit it often and for many years. Both disciplines share a timeless quality. Trends come and go; but, a well-arranged, written and performed song never goes out of style. By that account, Dr Clare Fischer and son Brent have been designing well-lived and visited musical spaces for over 50 years.

You can sum up the all-embracing, influential, and ever-changing Clare Fischer in one word. Prolific.
Artists who have released 50 or more studio albums (sans live, compilation or re-issues) during their lifetime are an anomaly. Johnny Cash released 96; Miles Davis released over 50 during his 30-year tenure for Columbia; Dolly Parton, 58; Rolling Stones, 55. At 83, Clare Fischer is releasing his 50th and 51st in September of 2011. It's impressive for any artist, Jazz or Popular, to produce such large body of work.

It's been said that you simply cannot box Fischer's music in a single category. His influences range from Stravinsky to Ellington to Jobim. Dr. Fischer's symphonic works are performed by orchestras around the world. The iconic Herbie Hancock lists Clare Fischer alongside Ravel, Bill and Gil Evans, as a major influence

Album #51, Continuum offers ten instrumental tracks and features Clare Fischer's extra-large big band with over 30 Jazz legends such as: Andy Martin, Carl Saunders, Bob Sheppard, Ron Stout, Scott Whitfield, Larry Koonse, Steve Huffsteter, and Peter Erskine.

Clare Fischer recorded some fine big band albums in the 60’s including Extension, Duality and Thesaurus. Those who still have the fine compositions and orchestrations of these earlier times ringing in their ears will want to get their hands on Continuum. Containing some of Clare’s last recorded piano playing, fine arrangements, a stellar cast of LA’s finest players, old and new Fischer collaborators, with their superb section playing and fine solo excursions, this brings together more of Clare’s previously unrecorded works and touches of Strayhorn, and one from son Brent Fischer, who has masterminded this recording project, and has dedicated himself to keeping his father’ music alive. If you thought Clare’s musical tentacles had already stretched as far as they could in the many directions in which he let them, then listen to Continuum and think again. A terrific album!
