4.0 out of 5 stars A modern pitchfork release I actually enjoy, August 17, 2010
This review is from: Continuum Ride (MP3 Download)
Project Pitchfork from Dyhani to Alpha Omega is amazing. You can't go wrong with Entities, Souls/Island, Io etc. Chakra Red is a mix of great and decidedly average. I only enjoy two songs or so from Eon Eon and every album after that, with the rest just being boring\forgettable\stale .

Continuum Ride, however, finally breaks that "curse" for me. It's at the same level as Chakra on my scale of sorts, with some really great songs such as the opener "Way of the World" and "Star Child". "Stacked Visions" is strong too. "The Dividing Line" has some enjoyable music, but has some downright awful lyrics: "The graveyard of desire, The spectacle of pleasure".. which is a problem with a good few of the tracks unfortunately. "Dead Cities" is the weakest track for me. The rest like "Supersonic Snakebite" are enjoyable too but not at the same level as the great tracks.

The album has the same grainy, dirty distorted feel to all instruments like the last album "Dream, Tiresias!". It feels like Pitchfork are trying to move in a new direction, but at the same time are trying to retain what made their early works so great. In my opinion, they should entirely focus on the former as while the old works are fantastic, the possibility of the band doing something much more unique and fresh would be worth the risk. After all, the old stuff will always be around to listen to in case the experiments fail. :)

Glad to finally be able to say I have enjoyed a new PP album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Continuum Ride, August 13, 2010

Very similar to Dream Tiresias in the fact that the music is a lot simpler, compared to say, Kaskade or Inferno. While this is not a bad thing per se, it does feel like Project Pitchfork have taken a few steps backwards. That being said, this album IS very enjoyable, and I actually prefer it to their last release, which wasn't all that bad to begin with either, just a major step down from the epic Kaskade.

This edition contains a bonus disc with 3 alternate versions of songs off of the album, and a hidden instrumental version of 'Beholder', and a DVD with the music video for beholder; with a 5 minute behind the scenes look at the making of the video.
The 3 songs on the bonus disc are only slightly different from their album versions, not making them worth the high $$$ of this package. This edition is packaged in a neat book filled with lyrics and pictures of the band making faces.
