In the year 2077, the ruthless leaders of the terrorist group Liber8 escape execution by time traveling to 2012, taking tough-as-nails cop Kiera Cameron (Rachel Nichols, G. I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) with them. A stranger in a strange land, Kiera poses as a government agent and joins forces with police detective Carlos Fonnegra (Victor Webster, Castle) and teen tech wizard Alec Sadler (Erik Knudsen, Jericho) to capture the terrorists before they can alter the future and turn the world upside down. Packed with explosive action and astonishing visual effects, Continuum: Season One is an adventure too thrilling to miss!

    MINOR SPOILERS:

I have been checking Amazon several times per week since I finished watching this fall. Still I got beat out of offering the first review. Kudos!

Plot: (not much is offered, so I am doing some editing from other sources, to give a better sense of what the program is about) Full credit to Wiki

""When a group of rebels convicted as terrorists escape execution by fleeing from the year 2077 to 2012, Kiera Cameron (Rachel Nichols), a future Vancouver law enforcement officer (called Protector), is involuntarily transported with them. In order to track the terrorists down and keep them from changing the past (and presumably future), Kiera joins the 2012 Vancouver Police Department and uses the skills of a young tech expert, Alec Sadler (Erik Knudsen), to both track the Liber8 agents' pasts and provide her with the necessary information and contacts to operate in the present despite her lack of official credentials."

The future of 2077 is a dystopian one in which world governments have collapsed and corporations now dominate the planet, instituting a high-surveillance, technically advanced police state and removing certain social freedoms, specifically criticism against the "Corporate Congress".""

    What Works:

Whenever there is a plot involving time travel the writers can go in several directions, most frequently focusing on an approach that is either comic or moralistic. Going forward in time versus going back, can also influence the direction. How many of us have had the fantasy of receiving tomorrows newspaper today or the more altruistic, righting a wrong. 2077 offers scarcities (consumable water, fresh produce, meat, etc.) that have broadened the social gaps versus 2012.

So far I've seen the first two episodes of Continuum on SyFy and am really enjoying it! After losing Fringe this show is now my weekly sci-fi fix! Thankfully The SyFy Channel in the US picked up this solid time travel/science fiction series, everyone in Canada has already had the chance to watch season 1. The beautiful Rachel Nichols is convincing as Kiera Cameron, the Protector (a regular cop) from the future, who's been thrust back in time 60 years chasing a bunch of terrorists. She switches easily between the hard edge of one aspect of her life to the softness of her off-duty persona, a real person and mother. She has enough depth and complexity of character to makes her appealing and interesting, and has awesome tech. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the season, discovering more about her geeky/brilliant friend and voice in her head Alec Sadler, her officer partner Carlos and how all of the relationships evolve. Who really are the bad guys? I think the answers are far more complex than they appear. This Blu-ray set is on my wish list, and since the show was just renewed for season 2 I couldn't be happier. More Continuum!

Continuum is a well written show with enough suspense to keep you interested, enough plot twists to keep you guessing, and enough political relevance to keep you questioning and thinking. The premise is very interesting. A group of terrorists travel back in time to try to win the future, but they are followed by a cop from the future as well who is hell bent on stopping them. Here's the catch though, the terrorists aren't fighting a holy war. They are fighting for freedom. As part of the group Liberate, they fight against the corporate take over of America, a theme very relevant today. The real problem with them is their methods. They are incredibly violent and kill people to seek their ends. This is where Kiera Cameron, the cop from the future comes in. She has really cool tech from the future that helps her stop the bad guys, but in the future it really helps her fellow cops oppress the people to serve the corporate government. Kiera, however, became a cop, or Protector as they are called in the show, to actually protect people, and it is for this reason that she is hell bent on stopping Liberate. As the show progresses, she realizes she shares some of the ideals that Liberate shares, even if Liberate's actions are detestable. There is also the element of time travel that plays into the show's intrigue. Did they all travel back in time and change the time line, or has everything they are about to do already been done? The show keeps you on your toes, and it keeps you wanting more. I definitely recommend watching it, and I cannot wait for the second season!

It's basically a capitalism takes over the world people go back in time to stop it plot. The good guys in this so far are the pro capitalism, which is a bit confusing, since basically its talking about corporations openly taking over the government. Its really interesting, looking forward to seeing where they are going with this. I kind of doubt it is going to end on a pro capitalism statement, but who knows?

I thought that the series premier was great.. Looking forward to watching these new shows. Hopefully they will continue producing for years to come. Good to get way from the reality shows that seem to dominate many of the stations.
