Poor Design, Too Big, But Does The Job,

I don't know why the camera doesn't have the standard 1/4"-20 tripod mount in the first place, since every camera has one and all your existing tripods and holders would be compatible.
But this device does an OK job of adding one. And you don't really have a lot of options. Here's the skinny: - It's a bulky extra thing to carry just to add a threaded mount - The placement of the eyelet on the camera to attach the tether string means that the tether blocks the slide-on installation of the mount. You need to unthread your tether, slide on the mount, then thread the tether again. Am I supposed to do this on the chairlift in winter? - It comes with a tether loop with a metal clip. Kinda like a carabiner that you are instructed to clip on the camera. It was a poor fit with the camera eyelet, and in fact is so tiny and weak that mine broke off the first time I inserted it. I did not exert any more force than a falling camera would exert! I am thinking about cutting off one entire side of this mount, which would weaken it, but at least it could slide on without removing the tether. In fact, if so done, I could leave the helmet mounting disk in one side's rails, and this product in the other side's rails. That would greatly reduce the amount of mount juggling I need to do in the field. I love this camera, but this mount is not in the same class. __________________________ Update: I did the cut. I used a hacksaw and cut along the line/seam that is visible in the photo here at Amazon. Thus, one side slides in the slots, the tripod screws into the bottom, and the left side of my camera is still open, so the whole thing can be put on a helmet mount (without taking off this tripod adapter). The mount is still absolutely strong enough, and I had great fun using it on a end-of-ski-pole mount for chairlift shots and even behind the back looking down shots. Because of my cut, I don't have to remove the tether from the camera to install this mount. Contour: redesign this product as I have modified it.

I find it ridiculous how one small piece of plastic can cost this much. Yes, it works correctly, but geez... the price is ridiculous.

Used with a Panavise 809 Camera Window Suction Cup Mount this adapter will allow you to mount any of the VHoldr Contour cameras to any smooth surface like a window or an auto body panel for great video of off-road adventures, drifting, or racing. The mount does not have the locking screws like the VholdR 2800 Windshield Mount Kit kit so use a safety tether to lock both the camera and mount to something on vehicle. The mount works perfectly fine for use on a standard tripod socket. The mount grips the camera rather tightly.
