Short but sweet, April 27, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Contra: Operation C (Video Game)
This game is awesome. its fast, its intense, but its too short.
The graphics are great considering this is an original gameboy game that came out in '91. the gameplay is solid, no hiccups or slowdowns. the bosses are killer. but sadly this intense experience ends after four short levels. Like most contra games this is pretty hard, but luckily there are two codes giving you extra lives and a level select which makes it easier.
Bottomline: Fun but short, if you cant get enough of contra, don't have the cash or a ds thus enabling you to get contra 4 this is a awesome game.

Operation C was a success on the Game Boy, September 26, 2011
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Contra: Operation C (Video Game)
1991 saw the release of Operation C, a slight spin off of the popular Contra series brought to the Game Boy by Ultra Games. They were a subsidiary of Konami created so they can release more games for the NES and Game Boy. If you loved the Contra games, you had to have played this game or bought it. Operation C was a success on the Game Boy and kept true to its roots from the NES series.
You control Scorpion from the two NES Contra games and guide him through 5 levels full of aliens and mutants created by the Black Viper. Each level has a boss that must be defeated in order to move to the next level. To stop them, you pick up hovering power ups in the form of fire, spread and homing guns. Earn enough points and you build up extra lives. If you run out of lives, the game lets you continue 2 times before you start from the beginning of the game.
The PROS: For a Game Boy game, the graphics are smooth and detailed enough to let you see the frantic action. The music and sound effects sound great and nothing is more fun that shooting the hell out of all the aliens and feelings good after you take down the bosses. The levels aren't too long but pack a challenge so you won't be completing this game without memorizing the enemy locations and using the right gun to get ahead.
The CONS: Earlier I said this game packed a challenge but it's actually an understatement. This game is serious hard; it's harder than the two NES Contra games combined and anyone who played it can tell you it can get frustrating. Sadly, this game lacked the 2 player co op that was found in the NES games so it will only be you playing through the game. And on top of it, it's rather short so it will be over by the time you master it.
Operation C proved it can deliver the same frantic action and shooter fun on the Game Boy and gamers took notice. It's a lot harder than Contra and Super C and shorter but for fans of the series, it was still worth checking it out and it still stands the test of time.
