Latin Funksters Keep it Real,
By
This review is from: Contra Los Roboticos Mutantes (Audio CD)
In this studio effort, the Spam Allstars develop upon their funky latin sound furthering their reputation for enjoyable listening that also can work for the dancefloor. Note the addition of flutist Mercedes Abal to the group and the sweet new take on her father's composition(titled here, "Campanario 64"). Also of note are the contributions by Latin Jazz legend Sammy Figueroa, and one of the founders of Irakere, Lazaro Alfonso. Vocalist and timbalero, Tomas Diaz further cements his reputation with his spirited interpretations.

Awesome stuff...,
By Jack Dempsey (South Miami Beach, Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Contra Los Roboticos Mutantes (Audio CD)
First, I love these guys. Have for ages now, back when they were playing live weekly at Hoy Como Ayer in Little Havana here in Miami. Then that gig ended, but, then they came back to it, so all is well and good again, though there is no shortage of places to catch them - and you'll find me at their Jazid shows as well...wherever they are weekly here in Miami, I/O, Fuacata, Jazid, etc, you'll find me, no questions.
Second...gotta call someone out. John Speck, the reviewer down below, he's one of these boys. Da*n fine 'bone player too. When he's not with these boys, he's layin' down his own with his outfit called Bacon Bits, but still, none the same, he's part of this group and I'm glad so. But, just wanted to put his review in perspective down below. Let's you know where it's comin' from a little better, and seein' how he didn't bother to tell you, I figured I'd point it out. But, as for this release....lordy, lordy brother, I cannot say enough about it. I'll always, and I mean ALWAYS, be partial to their Fuacata Live cd, though NOTHING can capture the amazing show these guys put on, BUT...this cd is a close, very close second. And, it has, what has got to be, one of the finest songs EVER committed to cd..."La Vida Continua." Pase lo que pase, la vida continua." Claro, que si. Truer words have never been spoken/sung and, Tomas Diaz....muchos gracias para todo. If you've got an ounce of soul in your body, get this. Brothers/sisters, if Azuquita were still as funked out as he was in 1975 con Jimmy Sabateur and added Miami bass with some of the most amazing self-made loops you can imagine, you might get just a taste of what you're looking at here. But, my words don't really do this justice. Just get it, thank me, and yourself, later.

This was "da bomb" I really was pleased that the CD was in perfect shape and the CD itself was great. I'm big fan of Latin Jazz and this fit the bill perfectly. I have never been disappointed with any product I have received from Amazon.
