Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Contraception is such an accepted fixture in our culture and medical practice that a serious challenge is indeed rare. In Contraception, Why Not, Janet Smith provokes her audience to give serious consideration to questions regarding the relationship between contraception, divorce, abortion, poverty, and other social ills. In contrast, she presents compelling evidence that couples who accept children as a gift from God, using natural family planning if needed, tend to be individuals of strong character and have happier marriages with dramatically lower divorce rates than the general population.

The message in Contraception, Why Not has captivated audiences on a national and international level. Add this presentation to the list of "must sees" for married couples, those considering marriage, their counselors, and physicians. Contraception, Why Not is a rich source of ideas and guidance for any audience.

Janet E. Smith is a professor of philosophy at the University of Dallas. She serves as a Consulter to the Pontifical Council for the Family and is Chairman of the board for the Millennium Evangelization Project. She authored Humanae Vitae: A Generation Later and edited Why Humanae Vitae Was Right, A Reader. Dr. Smith is highly regarded as an authority on Humanae Vitae, contraception, biomedical ethics, virtue ethics, and many other subjects.

5.0 out of 5 stars How OPENESS to life, changed mine, November 9, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Contraception, Why Not [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Dr. Janet Smith speaks eloquently on a document of Catholicism, Humane Vitae. This Church document reaffirmed, much to the horror of some, the meaning the of marriage: fruitfulness.
We must be open to life the Church teaches. We may for serious reasons use Natural Family Planning (...) to space our births, but must always be OPEN to God's will. Some couples may be infertile or unable to handle many children, they too are called to be OPEN to life, by not barring its domain in our lives. Contraception says I want to have sex with my spouse when I want to, and to avoid the natural ends a child. NFP allows a couple to space children and be open because they are engaging in intercourse when a woman should normally be infertile. They are not contracepting ( working against) conception, since they are not impeding the natural course of conception.

Janet Smith's tape is a good primer. Humane Vita changed my life. NFP is good for the soul as well as the body. I have successfully used NFP for 6 years and am planning my SECOND child soon.

Buy her tape, go back to Mass, embrace the Culture of Life and you will be truly living. Contraception ( and its mindset) places happiness in the material relm where objects and transistory orgasms make one happy; the Culture of Life provides
REAL awards, rewards that last an eternity.
