4.0 out of 5 stars Not a Bad Story
This book is about the life of a confessed mob hit man. Some times books like this make me question if the author is not adding a little to make sure the buzz is there it sell the book. If this guy really did the damage he claims and for the reasons stated then why did not one of his "family" friends not put a hit out on him? And while we are talking, how many people have...

3.0 out of 5 stars I Have My Doubts
This book will hold your interest, but as a previous reviewer stated how much of it is true? "Contract Killer" Donald "Tony the Greek" Frankos claims he shot James Hoffa in a suburban Mount Clemens home using Chuckie O'Brien as bait to assure Hoffa he was in a safe environment. Frankos says O'Brien was threatened with death along with his family if he didn't cooperate...

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a Bad Story, April 15, 2002

This review is from: Contract Killer: The Explosive Story of the Mafia's Most Notorious Hitman Donald "Tony the Greek" Frankos (Hardcover)
This book is about the life of a confessed mob hit man. Some times books like this make me question if the author is not adding a little to make sure the buzz is there it sell the book. If this guy really did the damage he claims and for the reasons stated then why did not one of his "family" friends not put a hit out on him? And while we are talking, how many people have claimed to have been part of the Hoffa killing? So many they evidently needed to pick Hoffa up in a school bus to fit all the killers in.

Don't get me wrong; this is a very entertaining book, with just an armload of tabloid type details about the mafia and a lot of interesting stuff on the government and the witness protection program. The book is a very interesting jump into the world of the Mafia and you will remember of lot of the story for a good while after you have finished it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A chilling account of life in organized crime, December 23, 1999
This review is from: Contract Killer: The Explosive Story of the Mafia's Most Notorious Hitman Donald "Tony the Greek" Frankos (Hardcover)
A great, honest, no-holds-barred account from a man with extreme courage and conviction to come forth and tell this incredible story. Not only are the characters fascinating, but we are also exposed to high levels of government corruption and how the system really works. I think "The Greek" speaks from the heart and has given us a most amazing account of organized crime and our criminal justice system.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best of a few mob books ever written, April 10, 2005
This review is from: Contract Killer: The Explosive Story of the Mafia's Most Notorious Hitman Donald "Tony the Greek" Frankos (Hardcover)
Of the hundreds of mob books ever written, this one does stand out. Are the stories true? I don't know but they do sound plausible. It's told in first person by Frankos and he mentions a lot of "the names." He tells stories of mobsters written in other books, that will make you want to go back and re-read them just to see how they fare.

If you can find it, get it, it's a great read. Start your "mob book" collection with Contract Killer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read but is it truth or fiction, February 5, 2005
This review is from: Contract Killer: The Explosive Story of the Mafia's Most Notorious Hitman Donald "Tony the Greek" Frankos (Hardcover)
Excellent account of what happened to Jimmy Hoffa but how many books out there or stories are going around claiming the same thing? I guess we will never know but this is a very interesting version nonetheless and thats just 1 small part of the book. This guy talks about hit jobs like he talks about taking the dog for a walk. Its a piece of cake for him. Its hard to go into everything in a review but if you dig mob books you will dig this one. Its a really easy read and its pretty decent sized and it holds your interest!

2.0 out of 5 stars So So Mob story, November 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Contract Killer: The Explosive Story of the Mafia's Most Notorious Hitman Donald "Tony the Greek" Frankos (Hardcover)
The more mob story's I read, and I've read most of them, I find that they all conflict each other as to dates, relationships to each other, and authenticity. Our thirst for mob literature is such that, with respect to Contract Killer, the author seem's to take huge liberty in his description of events that leads one to question wether or not this book borders on fiction.

True readers of mob literature will see right through this story.

3.0 out of 5 stars I Have My Doubts, November 10, 2010

This review is from: Contract Killer: The Explosive Story of the Mafia's Most Notorious Hitman Donald "Tony the Greek" Frankos (Hardcover)
Frankos says O'Brien was threatened with death along with his family if he didn't cooperate. Upon entering the house Frankos says he shot Hoffa twice in the head followed by Jimmy Coonan's additional shots. Hoffa's body was supposedly dismembered and shipped to the New Jersey Meadowlands and buried beneath Giants' Stadium. Maybe so! However, in another book entitled "I Heard You Paint Houses" Frank Sheeran, a close friend of Hoffa's, says he shot Hoffa in addition to the hit on "Crazy Joe" Gallo in Umberto's Clam House on Mulberry Street whereas Frankos says Sonny Pinto did the killing. Either Frankos or Sheeran is speaking with a forked tongue.

In reading this and other books on the mob I have to conclude that mobsters, despite their suave appearance with expensive clothes and pinkie rings, possess a very limited vocabulary. Profanity abounds out of their mouths. In addition the oath of omerta is a farce. When it comes down to it mobsters will "sing" to save their skin. I better rub him out before he rubs me out. As I said in a previous review of another book they are nobodies wanting to be somebody. A prison or an early grave is their destination.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, June 23, 2008
This review is from: Contract Killer: The Explosive Story of the Mafia's Most Notorious Hitman Donald "Tony the Greek" Frankos (Hardcover)
The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the story is so fantastic that it seems like some of it is fabricated. I'm not saying definitely, but some of the stuff seems a like it might be bit out there. A really good story none the less, I only wish there was more information about this guy on the internet.
