5.0 out of 5 stars A Contracts Essential
Well, I just finished my first year. Exams finished the day before this writing. I came to Amazon to thank this book and write a favorable review to help first years that will follow.

[Edit - Grades were just released. I got an A in Contracts. This book was a big help]

3.0 out of 5 stars No UCC
My contract class may have been a little unusual because we spent so much time on the UCC, but there was so little UCC in this book, I didn't find it very useful at all. My professor also spent a fair amount of time on the Restatement Second of Contracts, which is also covered only minimally in this book. I'm sure if your class is very common law and case driven, this...

Well, I just finished my first year. Exams finished the day before this writing. I came to Amazon to thank this book and write a favorable review to help first years that will follow.

[Edit - Grades were just released. I got an A in Contracts. This book was a big help]

For Contracts, this book is a must. Any first year law student needs this book. Here's why.

If you're a law student, you'll probably be reading this review at one of two moments in your law school career. Either you'll be reading this a few weeks before your first class, or, you'll be reading this a few weeks before exams. What you need to know is that you should get this book regardless of when you're reading this.

Generally, law school is about spotting issues in fact patterns and writing essays from those facts. Contracts, more than any other first year subject, is about understanding simple issues but being able to explain complexities. To succeed, it takes a mastery of subtlety.

This book is a key. First, it is really a hornbook. It is a summary of the law of contracts. But unlike other books and study aides on the subject, it is not an outline. Instead, each subject is covered in depth - with detailed exposition of general rules and their exceptions written in the way you'll need to write on the exam. Reading this book - and doing nothing else - will improve your grade because you'll get a feel for a winning writing style.

Second, and more importantly, each chapter ends with several detailed fact patterns AND wonderfully complex analysis by Professor Blum. I found from my experience that not only were these helpful to study and prepare, but that my contracts professor was a fan of Bloom and his writing style. These fact patterns and explanations are invaluable to a contracts class.

I found no fault with this book. It worked well with our case book - Farnsworth - and provided a wonderful support tool. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Arizona State Law Student, August 9, 2000

This review is from: Contracts: Examples and Explanations (Paperback)
This study aid does an excellent job of explaining every contracts topic covered in the first year. It incorporates many diagrams and charts to help explain tricky concepts and also explains many main cases from the textbook. This book is so complete that it should be required reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Elle Woods must have bought this book...., March 31, 2005
This the only study aid I needed to buy in order to ace Contracts. It is fantastic. Whether your course stresses common law, UCC, or policy driven approaches (or all three together), this book will help you see the "big picture" from formation to breach to remedies. Don't worry about wordiness or length because you can breeze through it due to Blum's excellent organization and his ability to depict pages worth of information in charts. Finally, the examples are challenging and interesting, and should have you ready for your final.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Helpful Book, September 6, 2005
This book was very helpful for Contracts I and II. The explanations are very clear and helpful, and the examples and problems are great as well. The 2nd edition is much more helpful and contains better interpretations of the recent law

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Contracts Supplement, January 16, 2005
By
I found this book very useful to help understand both the law and how it applies to real world situations. I always found myself going to it after class and after reading, which in turn helped me get the grade I wanted. It makes the subjects a lot easier to understand. I also really liked the charts, which can easily help you visualize how a certain concepts work (especially UCC 2-207).
I would highly recommend this to any 1L.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great as usual!, January 14, 2005
Buy this and High Court summaries keyed to your casebook and you're set. I also used the Gilberts and Sum and Substance 1L tapes while commuting to school--the best preparation with the least effort. AWESOME!

This book made a dry 1L subject VERY interesting and it held my attention better than the Civ Pro E & E for instance.
Great examples, good material, written in EASY to understand language--why don't we get that in the stuffy casebooks??

BUY it, it will make the concepts easier to understand and remember. Strongly recommended buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the Best Contracts Study guide out there period, August 26, 2004
This is a great book - I agree with the previous review - Blum does meander & his humor is wasted on those who have lost all capacity for humor ( law students ) - when I read funny - I think I wish this guy would put this effort into concise. Regardless - this is the best book on Contracts out there. The problem hypos are based on casebook cases. - Emmanuels & Gilberts bite ( but they do have evey case you havent read ). Probably a close tie would be the Sum & Substance by Brain - this is almost as good as Blum - better on some topics like the Parol Evidence rule - has a flow chart etc..

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear and to the Point, Simply Superb!, January 29, 2006

I wish I would have had Professor Blum for all my law school classes. This hornbook earned me an A in Contracts my second semester -- imagine if I had discovered it earlier. Blum's writing is so clear and so articulate, it's as though he's attuned to your particular learning style.

Especially good for the trickier material, such as Parol Evidence, Battle of the Forms, and Remedies! Just killer stuff really.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most helpful study guide, June 24, 2001
By A Customer
This was far and away the most helpful study guide I used this past year. I barely opened the covers of my other study guides (and will try to sell them to incoming 1L's), but Blum's Contracts will stay on my shelf long after graduation.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent supplement to any contracts class, May 4, 2000
This review is from: Contracts: Examples and Explanations (Paperback)
I highly recommend this book to anyone in Contracts, it provides an excellent summary of the blackletter law, and the examples and explanations do a great job of testing your knowledge and embellishing it.
