Petrucciani Reborn,
By David K. Johnson "David Kenneth Johnson" (Deerfield, Massachusetts) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Contradictions "A look at the music of Michel Petrucciani" (Audio CD)
A remarkable (and long overdue) tribute to one of the 20th century's greatest jazz pianists. Several of the tracks may even improve on the original -- and that's no easy feat.

Disappointing,
By Dave "Dave" (CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Contradictions "A look at the music of Michel Petrucciani" (Audio CD)
This disc was a disappointment. I am a big fan of Christian Jacob, but this disc was awful. The playing was virtuoso, but Jacob seems to feel the need to fill every possible moment of every track with piano playing. As a result, it is very "busy" sounding and exhausting to listen to. This disc proves the well-worn adage that silent passages are essential to good music composition. Buy the Christian Jacob Trio: Live in Japan disc instead, which is excellent.

Excellent CD,

This review is from: Contradictions "A look at the music of Michel Petrucciani" (Audio CD)
This is my first exposure to Christian Jacob and he is brilliant. In this CD, he arranges the works of Michel Petrucciani, who died at a young age. From Paris, he makes his home in L.A.Excellent music.
