I only have one complaint, so let's get it out there: this album is too short. Eight songs covering 40 minutes just isn't enough. Technically, it is an ep, but it is a very good one; I want more (a hallmark of excellence?). On Contraption Vol.II Beats Antique continutes to do what they do best: make a cocktail of old world sounds poured over electronic beats, and stir it oh so gently. This latest offering sounds like previous efforts (this is their seventh release in five years) but doesn't fall into the rut of sounding just-like-the-last-album. Most of the songs have a lighter touch of the middle east in them; it is nearly missing on Skeleton Key, and eastern Europe creeps in on a few tracks, most notably Bus to the Balkans. Lynx lends her dreamy vocals of Crooked Muse and the result is remarkable. From haunting to hopping, this albums covers the world(s). In short-pun intended, do your ears a favor: get this.

I think this is their most energy packed album yet. The tunes really put you into a performer's mindset and empower you to either dance or jam. For those who are familiar with their other work, I think they would agree that Beats grew in their knowledge and incorporation of other cultures. Colony Collapse blew my mind.

1 of my my favorite EP albums of Beats Antique was the Original "Contraption Vol I". Its electronic fusion that can be so sweet with the analogue ethnic fusion, but almost pushes near hardcore, yet tactfully flirts a distance away from it, and is not only infectious but VERY catchy.

Just like the original Contraption, this Vol. II has this sweetness yet gets nice and hard. It's very catchy.

On your first time listening from start to finish you may have a feeling of not quite knowing what to think of it, but you WILL feel it! But, after that 2nd or 3rd time playing strait through, the melodies become infectious "earworms" you will hear in your head all day long, and want to play it over & over, for instant gratification. More! You must play it AGAIN!

The flavors have similarities to Vol. I but is overall an entirely other flavor. This volume also has this very whimsical feel to it similar to the "Blind Threshold" album.

This is 1 of those albums that generally people won't ask you to turn off, or turn down, and people of many age groups seems to enjoy, not just young people, but a number of elderly people often express that they like the music. I never would've expected an electronic band to have that kind of consistent effect on people of generations so much older than I am, since I grew up with elderly people often hollering at me to turn my EDM music down, or off.
Who knew "Beats Antique" could be the 1 to span age demographic gaps?

I'd originally assumed that "Contraption" would be a Vol. 1 & 2, but I could actually see these as a continuing series, and would very much enjoy look forward to many more installments. I think it REALLY WORKS, and WELL.

I downloaded this album the day it came out and I have not been able to stop listening and dancing to it since! Almost every track is amazing, but I've especially enjoyed "Crooked Muse" with Lynx. In fact, I immediately told my dance troupe that I had called "dibs" in performing a solo to it.

I feel like this is the best of Beats Antique's recent albums. There's a great variety, most of the songs are incredibly danceable (at least from a tribal fusion belly dance perspective). I am very happy with my purchase!
