"Out Of Control" was the first book I have read by Mary Connealy, and will be the last. This book caught my attention because I love historical fiction and am always on the lookout for another good book to get lost in. I stuck with this book until the end, but I had to force myself to do so. The plot was not well thought out and rushed. The entire story takes place within a few days, and has no character development at all. I found that I could not like either of the two main character, Rafe and Julia. Actually, I came to be annoyed by them and the way they were portrayed. Julia was only concerned about her 'fossils', even in times of great peril to her and others. Rafe could only think about how he would claim a new piece of land and make a new home. I feel as though this could have been a great story, but unfortunately, it is not.

Out of Control by Mary Connealy was an awful book. I really like this author and am surprised that I could dislike this book sooooo much. Julia was a whiny brat whose only concern was about her fossils. She was downright selfish. I realize her father was a lowlife, but this girl needed a timeout in a big way. I have never disliked a character more. I had to force myself to finish this book. Don't waste your money on this book. Read her Montana Marriages series or Sophie's Daughters series. I have read these books many times, I guess all her books cannot be gold - but this book was awful. UGH!!

I didn't really care about how things turned out for any of these characters. Julia in particular suffers from a severe case of TSTL. For example: "There's a gun-toting madman in this cave. We should be careful and quiet . . . oh, look, Fossils! Fossils! Fossils fossils FOSSILS!!!!!" I suppose she was supposed to be spunky and passionate, but I thought she was a selfish idiot. I finished it because I rarely don't finish books, but I was pretty bored by the whole thing.
