Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

``This is the most comprehensive book on residential sound control that I have read--[it] includes all the sound control information that anyone would need for building in sound control in residential construction--single family or multifamily.''--John DiCesare, Residential Building Consultant. More people are spending more time at home making more noise--yet they want quiet environments. This is the only book on the market that tells designers, planners, architects, and builders how to give homeowners and apartment-dwellers the quiet they crave. Supplying complete details on reducing unwanted sound in all types of residential buildings, from single-family to multifamily, this authoritative guide clearly explains: methods and principles of noise control--and solutions to particular noise problems using specific techniques; the latest materials and tools used in noise and sound control; new federal, state, industry, and ASTM codes and standards--and why they make the ``quest for quiet'' more challenging; myths, misconceptions and the mysteries of residential acoustics; the latest testing techniques. The manual offers numerous case studies that show how noise control problems are solved using a variety of acoustic and noise control techniques. Moreover, it provides handy design guide worksheets, sound transmission data charts, and a noise control checklist that facilitate the design and construction of quieter residences. Noise Control Manual for Residential Buildings is straightforward enough to be used by the average do-it-yourselfer (it avoids complex mathematics), yet so complete it will satisfy the requirements of knowledgeable building professionals. It is a comprehensive guide to designing, specifying, testing, and retrofitting residences to meet new standards and satisfy the need for those most elusive environmental attributes--peace and quiet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide to home soundproffing, December 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Noise Control Manual for Residential Buildings (Builder's Guide) (Hardcover)
This is a great book on home soundproofing. I bought it to help me block outside noises coming into our bedroom, and its a good thing I did. I found out that most of what I had previously planned to do was ineffective. This book gave me the knowledge I needed to do an effective job. An excellent and easy to understand tutorial.

5.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable Reference, September 9, 2002

This review is from: Noise Control Manual for Residential Buildings (Builder's Guide) (Hardcover)
This is an invaluable reference. I've been searching for weeks for materials related to noise control in a residential setting. I've found only one "expert" in the yellow pages and he charges hundreds for his advice. This book provides all of the information he provided and more. Although, the editing isn't great and there are typos and other errors, the content is first-rate. For once, this book was exactly what I expected.
