A Pleasant suprise in the world of 'Gothic' metal,
By JadeAuto "Tin" (California, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In Control (Audio CD)
This ten-track beauty came to my notice a few weeks ago, thanks to the wonderful music matching skills of last.fm
Quick track review from someone who loves female singers juxtaposed with heavy riffs and decent electronica (symphonic gothic metal, some call this): 1) No More - this track got me hooked on the band. I love the mix of electronica behind the main guitar riffs, along with a catchy chorus. 9/10 2) In Control - title track the cd. another great riff, good lyrics, and comes at you with the same pace and speed as the first song. 9/10 3) Home - the first song you could call a 'ballad' (you can slightly compare it to the band version of my immortal, but much harder, riff wise). It's nice, but it's just missing something that I found enjoyable from the first two tracks on this cd. 6/10 4) The Way I Feel - this song will take you totally off guard. very slow, mild, and is a duet. Not at all decently placed sequence wise on the cd, but it's a nice song nonetheless. 5/10 due to placement. would have been better at the end (say 7/10) 5) Lost Inside - Now we get back into the energetic, catch-you-up and don't-let-you-down riff-age and lyrics that draw me to this group. Slow start but then it builds quite nicely and hits you with full-forced energy. 9/10 6) Remember - another good song. Unfortunately, this one is... quite repetitive in the chorus (not sure if it's a cover song or not). If it had a bit more variety, I would appreciate it more. 7/10 7) Believe - Not too fond of this song. It's still hard, but again, it's more of a ballad than a goth metal song. 5/10 8) Like the Air - This song, lyrically, is the best on the album. I totally can see exactly what was implied by the lyrics, and the tone and melody of the song sync perfectly with the message being delivered. IMO best track on the album. 10/10 9) Broken - I had to listen to this one a few times while writing this review to give it an honest opinion. I have mixed feelings on it. I like it, but something about it just dosen't have the best balance. 8/10 for that sightly uneasy feel about it. 10) Never - this song has a great feel to it. It's not too long, hits hard, has nice lyrical content. 9/10. Overall, I would say this CD is an 8 out of 10. It's got some great tracks, though a few do bring this down from what it could be. I would recomend hopping over to www.last.fm to listen to the tracks on this CD for free (since it dosen't seem Amazon has this available to listen to) before you purchase. If you like the first song on the CD though, you won't be dissapointed.

It's amazing what you stumble upon while scavenging for some new music. I found this band going through an iMix playlist on iTunes and the first song that got my attention was Broken. This track hooks you in with a light electronic riff as Manda, the bands' Femme metale, serenades you with her angelic voice, and as the chrous explodes, you soon realize that Manda is a force to be reckoned with. But it was the music video for "No More" that had me do more research, and i found myself buying the whole album (which rarely happens). I strongly recommened buying this album. If i could i would rate this album and band a 20/5 stars. Happy listening! ;)

The songs are well structured and sound great! There are distorted guitars, drums, and a freshly sounding electronica in the background. What caught me about Nemesea is the amount of breathing room that the vocalist is given within the songs. The singer pulls off a fantastic sound in this open space and the music just grows around her. I was pulled in because it is different from all the other stuff I have heard. We all know that back in 2003 Evanescence inspired many people (my self included), and since bands have come to express female fronted rock that sounds a little bit too much of the same. With these bands distorted guitars blend with strings, with vocals, with drums etc, and everything becomes a wall of sound that makes it difficult to pick out what a piano and strings doing, not to mention everything else. In this CD there is simplicity and complexity that allows for the instruments to be heard on their own within the mix. Fantastic. Granted, I love a lot of bands I am referring to with the wall of sounds, but Nemesea's 'In Control' is just something else. There are familiar sounds, but this band has taken a step in a different direction. You won't regret this purchase, well worth the money. I love this CD, Nemesea please make another album!!

In Control,

This is my first taste of Nemesea and I have to say that I am fairly impressed. As noted elsewhere they are very much like Evanescence, but as I like that band this is no problem or insult. The vocals are of a very similar ilk and just as fitting behind the heavier music. Not all the tracks are heavy though and a couple have a gentler feel to them. On first listen `Home' really stands out, but I've found with repeated listening that most songs have their individual merit. I actually like that this album is short, around 34 minutes, as it's great to put on, enjoy the music and then finish it without becoming bored with the style. With other bands such as Lacuna Coil this type of music is almost becoming a sub-genre in it's own right and `In Control' fits in perfectly with the other better albums out there. I tend to feel female singers with heavier music works excellently. At times the album feels a bit `dancy' which I wasn't expecting, but didn't find out of place with their general sound. I really enjoyed this album and their sound overall. Worth a listen.

This group is a little techo and a little metal. I like the music and have enjoyed this CD. They remind me of a little rawer form of Within Temptation.

Nemesea's In Control,

I just recently bought this CD. Spent that whole night listening to it a few times on a good audio system to get the best feel of the song. The CD is very well written... mostly, the lyrics were a bit weak for my tastes and there fore I give them a 4 out of 5 rather than a five out of five. There's a few things that could have been phrased a little better and some of the lines are a bit repetitive.
But that is the only thing I found wrong. The singer delivers those lines perfectly, and the music is an awesome compliment to the vocals (and vice-versa) I definitely recommend them.

I would agree with the former poster, I actually had typed in within temptation on LAst .fm when this totally cool song Came on and I went...WOW who is that.
The song was IN control by Nemesea, I now have 3 tracks of the 10 And will get this CD as soon as AMAzon gets it in. I would also suggest going to LAst FM and letting last match your musical tastes to your current music library. IN control the title song is driving and wonderfully deep goth rock. Very club dancable but may be one of my favorite new songs. |
