Book Description

0201477009 978-0201477009 September 22, 1998
* MATLAB(r) is an interactive program for numerical computation and data visualization that has become an essential tool for control engineers. The Control Tutorials for MATLAB and Simulink (r) included in this package provide a uniquely friendly and quick way to learn how to use MATLAB. The tutorials focus on analysis and design of automatic control systems, covering the basics of MATLAB, the most common classical control design techniques, and some modern (state-space) control design. * Using web-browser technology, the Control Tutorials allow students to learn MATLAB and Simulink by seeing and doing, practically eliminating the frustration of having to decipher a new software package. Because the Control Tutorials are on screen simultaneously with the software application being taught, they streamline and focus the learning experience by eliminating the distracting process of having to switch attention back and forth between a textbook and the computer screen.

From the Back Cover

Using web-browser technology, the Control Tutorials allow students to learn MATLAB and Simulink by seeing and doing, practically eliminating the frustration of having to decipher a new software package. Because the Control Tutorials are on screen simultaneously with the software application being taught, they streamline and focus the learning experience by eliminating the distracting process of having to switch attention back and forth between a textbook and the computer screen.

FEATURES/BENEFITS

  • NEW—Updated to include material on MATLAB 5 and Simulink. 2.
  • Commands shown in the tutorials can be copied from the web browser window and pasted into the MATLAB command window with a simple point and click of the mouse-no time-consuming typing and editing, and no transcription errors.
  • The tutorials combine explanatory text with sample MATLAB commands and illustrative plots and graphics; interactive animations help visualize problems and solutions.
  • For each topic, the tutorial includes an example problem that is worked out in detail, showing all the necessary steps. In addition, there are seven physical examples that are followed throughout the tutorial, with each design technique applied to each example.
  • Hypertext allows students to proceed through the tutorials at their own pace and tailor the learning experience to their personal needs.

This review is from: Control Tutorials for MATLAB and Simulink: A Web-Based Approach (Paperback)
These tutorials help you learn how to use Matlab and Simulink for the analysis and design of automatic control systems. They cover the basics of Matlab and Simulink and the most common classical control design techniques (PID, root locus, and frequency response), as well as some modern (state-space) control design techniques and digital control.

If you are looking for an interactive way to learn about Matlab and Simulink in Control applications, this book and the companion CD will be most useful for you.

I am a professional practitioner of Process Measurement and Control. I have been working for most than 16 years as an Instrumentation, Automation, and Process Safety an Control Engineer for the Oil & Gas Industry. I found this book to be an excellent learning tool for the professional, and I bet that students will also find it useful.
