I use the book like a daily devotional. I read a page a day and try to do what it suggests. It works for me.

Simple and Comprehensible,
By A Customer
This review is from: Control Yourself! (In Mind & Health Series) (Family Friendly Book) (Paperback)
What I liked about this book was its simplicity as stated by other reviewers as well. I think you will be disappointed if you expect this book to explore the psychology of mind in depth. This book is more for people who simple want things related to daily life stated to them up front in an easy way. This book will make you think about your life.

Many years ago I discovered this book on a table at a Barnes and Noble, hardly expecting to be so thoroughly edified and comforted by the content inside. Though the cover shows a grainy illustration of a severely stressed-out man yelling into his phone, the book's inside portion is filled with an abundance of calm, sagely related advice that is widely known but often disregarded or forgotten about. The book's Zen-like approach would likely help anybody confronting troubles or personal demons, and though it's horribly edited, I've referred to it many times throughout the years. The advice includes:
* Concentrating on even uninteresting things to increase the strength of your mind * Learning to constantly think in a positive way, something often very hard to do * Guarding against becoming overly emotional * Avoiding feelings of inferiority * Controlling rash impulses * Giving more in life to receive more in the long run * Keeping good company * Avoiding comparing yourself to others And the list goes on... . Some of the advice is simplistic and quirky, things like maintaining appropriate room temperature, choosing the right colors, maintaining good posture, adding humor to your life and striving toward cleanliness in your surroundings. Other tips come across as things we may have learned about as kids but have since forgotten due to life's daily grind: observe courtesy; don't waste time; avoid fussing over trifles; enjoy each moment of life; retain independence; and stay humble, even in moments of great accomplishment. The end result of all this straightforward advice -- 95 easy-to-read tips in all -- is an inspiring, non-preachy little book that can help change your outlook and maybe even improve the quality of your life, though you'll of course have to work at it.

Don't be fooled by the HORRIBLE cover/ packaging. I don't even know what made me pick up this book, because it looks like an anger management book, but to say so, really does the book an injustice. Little daily meditations to give some much needed perspective in this world. GREAT spousal reading, or individual.

Simple Read!,

I like the fact that this book avoided psycho-babble. Why not? Try reading it. Sometimes easy suggestions are better than complicated psychological analysis. If you need complicated answers, it is time for you to see a Psychiatrist. Books are not where you should be looking for help. But for the rest of us, not a bad book.

Remain happy forever!,
By Daniel F. Wu (Long Island, New York, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Control Yourself! (In Mind & Health Series) (Family Friendly Book) (Paperback)
This book presents 94 interesting short plain language discussions which are succinct, entertaining, affirmations of what a positive individual - like YOU - has always been aware of towards living a good life that fulfills your needs for spiritual growth, and suggests insights on coping better with the simplicities AND complexities of life itself, not only in practical suggestions for our adjusting to our circumstances, but also (taking the words out of your own thoughts) in the most straight-forward manner reminding us on how to improve the situations and relationships affecting ourselves and all around us! As it principally places before us in plain language what YOU/we already KNOW from our own life experiences, it is actually a pleasant (reminder) presentation of what we can FOCUS ON to make things better for ourselves and others by being more aware of those principles and practical behaviors for us to better 'CONTROL YOURSELF!' The book begins with an educational primer on the nature of our MIND and how it controls the very nature of our INDIVIDUALITY/BEING. CONCLUSIONS and FOOD FOR THOUGHT are the final chapters given to us to provide inspiration and thematic thoughts on how to continue towards achieving the goals of a STABLE mind, and a more positive and mutually beneficial relationship with all around us. AND IT DOES THIS IN A SUPER-READABLE QUICK-READ STYLE. Pick the book up anywhere, read a few pages, and be entertained and stimulated. Remain happy forever!
