The 'Jornal de Notícias' of Porto is one of two Portuguese sister papers-- the other is Lisboa's 'Diário de Notícias'. Both are top-tier national papers in terms of writing quality and journalistic integrity; to my knowledge, in Portugal only the "Publico" might be seen as a better national paper. [All three are available as apps for Kindle, by the way.]
On the upside, for those of us in the US the 'Jornal de Notícias' provides not only an alternate look at world news, important as American media are limited to American points of view in terms of both how they cover news and what news they choose to cover, but also provides far better European news than is generally available in the US (despite Europe's importance to our economy) and, of course, infinitely more news from Portugal than is available in the United States, where the majority of journalists probably would have trouble finding Portugal on a world map.
From a personal point of view, the 'Jornal de Notícias' is even more valuable in that it covers F.C. Porto in some depth... another story.
On the downside, the 'Jornal de Notícias' is available only in Portuguese. I considered removing a star for that reason, but then remembered that, although Amazon is a multinational company whose Kindle Fire utilizes Android (from multinational Google), I have never removed a star from any other app for being limited to English. Thus, in fairness, I cannot do differently here.
