The New Standard for Modern Music, December 24, 2002
This review is from: Controlled By Radar (Audio CD)
You can call it fusion, jazz, rock, progressive, whatever... The fact remains that McGill/Manring/Stevens is the standard that all musicians will now have to aspire to reach. I love the fact that this 2CD-set has one disk of electric and one disk of acoustic music. I haven't quite decided which one I like better. (In Walked) Bogus Boy is definitely my favorite cut on the electric CD. Vic's groove hits you from the first second and just slams throughout. Michael Manring continues to amaze, and every time I listen to this album I hear something new in what he plays. Scott McGill is without a doubt the most underrated guitarist in music today. There is nothing he cannot do, and I hope the rest of the world figures this out soon.
The acoustic CD is packed with subtleties. I would say that the disk has many Indian raga-influenced themes.
I really can't say enough about how great Controlled by Radar is. If you are a fusion fan, get this album! If you are looking for something different, get this album! If you are sick of the music doldrum, get this album! Bottom line? Get this album!!!

Too much tinkering, June 16, 2010
This review is from: Controlled By Radar (Audio CD)
What could have been a big cerebral jam album with split personality ends up being an over-thought yet noodled to death routine.
