3D Controller for Sega Saturn video game system

If you've read the other reviews, you know that this doesn't work with all games. Thats why I only gave it 4 stars. This controller rocks. If you have a Saturn or are planning on getting one, you'll need this.

I thought I should chime in here after picking up a 3D controller NIB. I was very excited having never used it before and went to replay many of my classic games. This controller is supported (in analog mode) by very few games! It of course makes the biggest difference with Nights into dreams, which feels like a new game compared to using a D-pad.

This controller is NOT supported by Panzer Dragoon and Panzer Dragoon Zwei, I don't understand how the other reviewers could not discover this. If you try to play Panzer Dragoon the controls are very touchy, and worse than this you CANNOT SHOOT INTO THE CORNERS OF THE SCREEN. This makes boss battles nearly impossible when you need to shoot a homing mine coming at you. Yet worse is that in Zwei the bezerk attack goes off randomly when using this controller. This is all because Panzer Dragoon games were designed for the Sega Mission Stick, not the 3D controller! I was expecting to be able to play Virtua Cop with it but no luck there. Same with mass destruction.

Sega Rally Championship doesn't work either, it detects the controller as a steering wheel so technically you can use it to steer, but I was unable to configure a control scheme that was acceptable (you end up needing to use the D-pad to shift which is awkward)

Don't let me put you off of this controller though- it is comfortable and relatively precise. I would say it's not great by modern standards but certainly leaps ahead of the D-pad. It even has analog shoulder buttons. I have bigger hands and find the controller comfortable for using analog, but cramped if I need to use the D-pad on it.

Some games that I tested that seem to work well with the 3D Controller are Manx TT Superbike (supports analog acceleration / braking on the shoulder buttons!) and Sky Target. I hear Panzer Dragoon Saga and Mechwarrior 2 support it also. There are lists of games that have support for it out there, and I'd suggest you check one before you purchase this controller. Of course it is usable with many games that are unsupported, but be prepared to potentially find flaws (like I mentioned before- games designed for the mission stick or steering wheel).

The bottom line is it is a quite good controller but it's just a shame not more games support it (there are so many games that would hugely benefit from it!). Just wanted to make sure people out there know this before they pick one up!

I think that this controller really helps get the 3-d feeling. The only problem is, some games don't use the 3-D mode control.

No Saturn owner should be without this controller, the best peripheral released for the console. I've had a Saturn for 12 years and only got this recently, and it has given a whole new life to my old favorites like NiGHTS and Panzer Dragoon Saga.

It seemed as though everywhere I went, people recommended using the 3D controller (especially for FPS) because of how much easier and more accurate it was. This, being due to the analog stick.

The analog stick took a bit of getting used to. At first, I HATED it! I found it to be quite touchy, making it difficult to do any precise aiming. However, after a couple days, I actually got quite good at using the stick and now prefer it to the directional pad.

There's also another important change in the design of the 3D controller: Left and Right "trigger" buttons! These are so much nicer and more comfortable to use than the "shoulder" buttons of standard controllers.

Bottom line: This controller is definitely better than the standard controller. It just might take a while to get used to using the analogue stick.

This is a great controller if you have big hands and is far more comfortable than the model 2 controller but the model 1 feels good in my hands 2.

This was original released with Nights into Dreams(totally recommend getting this!) back in the mid 90's but it also comes with the best D-Pad ever made and it's the same as the model 2s D-Pad! So regardless this is a controller you're going to need as finding a model 2 controller is very difficult and most you'll find are the grey Japanese ones online! I prefer the black(US) ones.

Now the analog stick works great for the games that support it and the D-Pad works flawlessly for any game so really this is basically the Model 2 Controller well Model 1 controller with a analog stick but with the Model 2s D-Pad!

I would have to say, after playing NiGHTS into Dreams with a regular Sega Saturn controller, it made me long for something that could manipulate NiGHTS through the tumbling ever expanding LSD nightmare that is the platform easier, and with a more fluid movement.
And alas! Here we have the 3D controller. Its functionality is spot on with the Dreamcast controller, which is nice due to the fact that its bigger, and ergonnomically its by far more comfortable than any other controller of its generation.
You will have a lot of gamers out there (and I use the term loosely) that claim the Saturn was garbage, had very few good titles, and was lightyears behind the power curve. Well, in some aspects it was. But in all honesty, I proudly own a Saturn for the mere fact that it has a few good titles. NiGHTS, Resident Evil, Astal, D, Vertua Cop. Those are more then good enough to warrant owning one of these machines. NiGHTS was by far one of the greatest games made for the Saturn, and in my opinion, one of the greatest games of all time.

This product as you know the Sega Saturn contoller is in perfect condition, extremely fast shipping n also very satisfied we were with it.

This is a must if you plan Nights on the Sega Saturn because it was designed with this controller in mind.

It was great to get this in boxed, brand new condition because I think they stopped manufacturing these several years ago. I use the controller on my Saturn console for nostalgic game playing. It works well as a standard controller. The trigger buttons for your index fingers feel great during games like Sega Rally and the overall controller is very ergonomic. The only problem I had was when I was messing around and switching the 3D and standard mode on the conroller during gameplay. I had to reset the console to get the controller to work correctly again. No biggie.
