4.0 out of 5 stars Generally good book but some extremely misleading errors, December 30, 2000

This review is from: Windows 95 Common Controls & Messages Api Bible (Complete programmer's reference) (Paperback)
If there is anybody still out there writing in WIN32 this is still a good book even now Windows 95 is dying. However it does contain some extremely misleading errors which readers should be weary of (and which is why I am writing this review). For instance it states that most EN_... edit control notification messages (e.g. EN_MAXTEXT) return the edit control identifier in the low word of wParam when it is actually in the high word for many of these messages. Also it incorrectly states the return values of the callback function used in EM_STREAMIN and EM_STREAMOUT messages used to open rich text files. However still a good book (despite its age) for anyone interested in WIN32 (although you may have a job getting hold of a copy now).

5.0 out of 5 stars Reference for win32 common controls, messages, and macros, February 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Windows 95 Common Controls & Messages Api Bible (Complete programmer's reference) (Paperback)
This book had all that it promised and more! It's a great book to learn common controls from, and as a reference it's extremely handy! I can't think of a day I haven't used this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars What is wrong with this picture?, May 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Windows 95 Common Controls & Messages Api Bible (Complete programmer's reference) (Paperback)
This book is one of the worst books I have ever read on API and common controls for Windows 95. The whole time the author parades through the book like he is some programming genius and you are some idiot who should not be learning to program in the first place. I found his technique not only insulting but extremely arrogant.

I will never buy a book by this author again.
