About the Author

JULIE RACH MANCINI got her first pet, a parakeet named Charlie, when she was six, and had Sinbad, an African grey parrot with special needs, for ten years. She assisted in preparing the first issue of Birds USA and became editor of Bird Talk in 1992. She's a popular writer of pet-oriented materials.

Although this book does not have the answer to a lot of questions conure owners may have it is by far the most comprehensive book on these birds.

This is a very comprehensive book detailing how to prepare yourself and keep a conure as a pet. I read the entire book in one evening. I didn't give it five stars because I found there was too much information repeated in the book. I don't know if this was done for emphasis or if the author was being lazy, but I found it to be redundant and not needed.

I also believe that much of the information in this book can be found researching diligently on the internet. However, the nice thing about this book, is that it is compiled together and easy to read. There are a few sections in this book dedicated exclusively to Conures that you probably won't find online, and make this book invaluable. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a first time Conure owner. It is probably not going to offer much new information for someone who is experienced and used to raising and taming parrots in general, though.

I brought this for a friend after he got his first pet parrot. Parrots can be very demanding and aren't like anything like having a cat or a dog. I thought he needed some basic info and this book was very good. He really appreciated it.
