Not what I expected,
By Calee (Long Island, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Convection Oven Bible (Paperback)
If you are a semi-professional cook with a large convection oven and don't mind shopping for ingredients not easily found in your local grocery store then this book may be for you. If you got a microwave/convection oven combo and are looking for help/recipes to get the most out of it, this is NOT the book for you. It has a small section on convection-toaster-oven cooking (her name for small convection ovens)but even this is not especially helpful. Many (not all) of the recipes have a decidedly mediterranean feel to them. This book should be titled "Cooking Mediterranean Food in a Convection Oven". If that is your style I'm sure you'll like this book. I am a lover of and collector of cookbooks but this one is going in the garage sale pile.

With a new convection oven, I needed the basics for cooking in it. This book informed me well on containers and temperatures, and how the oven works. Will try more recipes.

You paid $$$$ for a convection oven to make these recipes,

I bought a convection oven to step up my culinary skills and this book has the recipes that take advantage of my $2K investment in cooking hardware. These recipes are not designed for the beginning cook, or the family who eats junk food (though a convection oven might make fish sticks and frozen pizza better on whatever scale you would rate fish sticks and frozen pizza.) There aren't a lot of pictures or helpful tips on how to properly chop onions or turn on your oven. If you have good basic cooking skills and semi-gourmet taste, buy this book.

This is a very good cookbook for the convection oven and I'm coming to rely on it as I negotiate the sometimes confusing world of convection cooking. I have a question though that maybe another reviewer might be able to answer.
The rule for convection baking is "cut 25 degrees off the oven temp." My oven does this automatically. What I'd like to know is: Are the recipes in the cookbook adjusted down already or do I just enter whatever the recipe calls for and let my oven's adjustment make it all correct? I have gone through the book pretty carefully -- as has my husband -- and we can't find the answer to this rather obvious question. Perhaps the author could help?

I recently purchased and had installed a convection oven for my wife. Both of us were surprised at the small amount of literature available on these ovens. After looking on Amazon, I found this book & bought it. My wife was thrilled and said this is the only book she will need.

We purchased a microwave that included a convection oven. The instructions were very limited and I searched for a convection cookbook for a number of months. This book is one of the best and I would recommend it highly.

I was very disappointed in this book. It is certainly not the Bible for Convection ovens. I was looking for regular kinds of food to cook. Much of this book is not that way. I would return it if I could.

I can't give a review because I ordered the wrong cook book. I have a table top convection oven and seemingly this book if for a regular oven. I did have this type oven in my motor home and wish I had had this book then. Service on the order was excellent.
