Book Description

July 21, 2000
Convergence is the season when seemingly seperate life-threads are woven together for your ultimate purpose. At this juncture in your life, you can have cause to say: "Yes! This is me; this is what my life is for."

Convergence happens when individuals discover their unique blend of Career, Community, Creativity and Call. This discovery is often a result of deliberate decisions to submit, through steps of obedience and, to what one understands of God and his ways.

We usually pass through seven seasons before coming to a point of Convergence. These seasons are crafted by God to shape us into a people prepared for his purposes. They include: Faith, Fearing and Hearing God, Discovering Your Gifts, Skills Building, Internal Integrity, (Re)choosing Your Spouse and The University of the Desert.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seeing the Tapestry, August 15, 2000
By
This review is from: Convergence (Hardcover)
Brett Johnson's important new work helps the inquiring reader make sense of their personal history and discover a refined understanding of personal purpose. One of the most important ideas in the book is the notion of personal Integration. Weaving together the often frayed threads of Calling (personal vocation), Career (how we make our living), Community (our affiliations personally and professionally) and Creativity (our unique ideas and/or products), Johnson challenges the notion of a priority list and stimulates the desire for cohesive living. The book is full of practical exercises that aid self-discovery; however, this is not a "how-to" book with superficial self-help ideas. Convergence breaks new ground and compels fresh thinking about personal purpose. In our busy lives we often see the "underside" of life's tapestry: the frayed threads and jumbled colors. Convergence will gives the humble reader a glimpse of the beauty being woven in the midst of everyday challenges.

5.0 out of 5 stars how to be a disciple all of the time, October 24, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Convergence (Hardcover)
This book is the best I have read on the subject of true discipleship, i.e.,
how to be a disciple all of the time-at work, home, and play! Brett Johnson
insists that convergence, the overlapping of the different spheres of one's
life under the umbrella of our identity in Christ, is what the Christian is
called to do. His book offers many practical ideas and exercises to define
and shape the process for each person. The chapters on marriage and the
desert experience alone are worth the book. I have referred the book to
many friends who are serious about trying to be a disciple all the time,
wherever they are. Throw out the idea of balance and replace it with
convergence!

5.0 out of 5 stars God's purpose-our maximum potential realized, September 7, 2000
By
Susan Stuart (Redwood City, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Convergence (Hardcover)
Brett's book offers a unique blend of questions to ask ourselves along our journey to being in alignment with God. It provides guidelines, not shortcuts, and applications as we enter, evolve and exit from one season after another of our lives. Convergence causes us to make choices about the way we live, which are maximized by our decision to blend the four areas of our life together. By integrating career, community, creativity through intentional personal planning, convergence is attainable and our life-goals bear desired fruit. Brett has used this book to interweave his own life journeys, sharing what has worked and what has not, in an effort to encourage readers to step out in faith to take a closer look at a more meaningful, God-designed and directed, life.
