A Catholic Answer to the "Purpose Driven Life",
By Pete Vere (Ottawa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In Conversation with God: Meditations for Each Day of the Year, Vol. 1: Advent, Christmas, Epiphany (Vinyl Bound)
For those seriously seeking to grow in holiness and bring some order to their daily prayer life, I strongly recommend this series. Drawing upon Sacred Scripture, the writings of the saints, and his own life experiences, the author brings together three daily meditations (about five to ten minutes each) that center around the Scripture readings of the Mass that day.
Imparted in these meditations are knowledge of the faith, advice on how to pray more fervently, and a clear understanding of virtue and its importance. It also inspires us to serve God faithfully. A good Catholic answer to the latest Protestant craze over "The Purpose Driven Life".

Finding The True Spirit Of Advent With God.,
By vaberlin@talstar.com (Tallahassee, Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In Conversation with God: Meditations for Each Day of the Year, Vol. 1: Advent, Christmas, Epiphany (Vinyl Bound)
For my family and me, reading this book has become a tradtion during Advent. How many times have you roamed the shopping malls, your local Wal-Mart during Christmas only to come home and feel detached from the Birth of Christ-the true meaning of Advent? This insightful book places the reader on track as to why Christ was born, the importance of waiting for His Birth. I highly recommend this book for families. Read it together, talk about it, refresh yourself. A true guide to the Advent season!

A perfect devotional companion,

Volume 1 of "In Conversation with God" is a beautiful way to draw closer to Christ during the Advent and Christmas seasons. For each day in these liturgical seasons, starting with the 1st Sunday of Advent and ending with the Baptism of the Lord, Fernandez takes the day's readings and offers practical devotional insights. He liberally inserts quotes from saints, fathers and popes to emphasize his points.
Each meditation is a perfect length - long enough to include some real depth, but short enough to read in 5-10 minutes. I read it during my lunch hour, and found it a great oasis during the workday. What I most appreciate about these meditations is their "real world" nature. Fernandez speaks of mystical realities, but he applies them to the life of the Christian trying to live a holy life while having a family, a job, etc. No matter what your vocation in life, these meditations can help you draw closer to Christ. I highly recommend this volume to anyone who wants to have a fruitful Advent and Christmas season.

Answered my prayer "Lord, teach me how to pray!",
This review is from: In Conversation with God: Meditations for Each Day of the Year, Vol. 1: Advent, Christmas, Epiphany (Vinyl Bound)
It's not just finding 10 minutes to spend on spirituality, it's about making good use of the time. Trying to quickly quiet all the distractions is simply impossible. This series of books is a solution. The meditations are straightforward and direct; divided into sub-sections; contain scripture passages, doctrine, and some personal notes; nuanced and deep enough that an immediate second reading brings surprising insights. The format is well organized into roughly a 1000 words per day. Each of the 7 books fit into a coat pocket (only need to carry 1 at a time), and the pages, typeface, and binding are all well done and sturdy. I've NEVER recommended any book before this. This is a treasure - a pearl of great price !

I really enjoy these books, I had the Ordinary time book and decided to order this one for Advent, Christmas, Epihany. I enjoy the daily meditations as they are tied to the Liturgical Seasons. As a Deacon these books help me to reflect on preparation for my Sunday homilies. Words to live by based on scripture. I have recently ordered the entire set.
