I recently read a HBR article by Peter Bregman, "Your Problem Isn't Motivation." Peter makes the point that "Motivation is in the mind; follow-through is in the practice. Motivation is conceptual; follow-through is practical. In fact, the solution to a motivation problem is the exact opposite of the solution to a follow through problem."

In other words, if you care about creating star performers, you are already motivated. Psyching yourself up with more motivating self-talk isn't going to help you reach your goal. You need action steps. Your mind will start arguing with you. Ignore the mental chatter and get into action.

Here's where Shawn's new book can help. It's an intensely practical guide on how to take follow-through action. With plenty of real world examples, Shawn shows you how to have conversations that engage you and your people in the practice of getting results. Let Shawn show you how to move from being a leader who motivates to a leader who inspires star performance.

Conversations For Change is one of my favorite books. I'm thrilled that Shawn Hayashi keeps writing. I learn something new with each book, and Conversations for Creating Star Performers is no different. Now that I'm no longer an employee, but an employer, the valuable nuggets of advice that pour out of her books makes me a better, and more successful, entrepreneur.

The Appendix alone,"Creating Star Performers with a Focus on 24 Vital Skills for Success" is worth investment in this book! I'm using it as a quick checklist and development conversation prep tool. Well organized and easy to reference "in the coaching moment."
