Editorial Reviews

From the Inside Flap

The Greek goddesses have inspired the female imagination for more then three thousand years. Representing aspects of the female psyche, these goddesses have touched the lives of countless women over time. The profound emotional experiences of womanhood - being a daughter, being a sister, becoming a wife, bearing a child, experiencing sexual passion, love, and jealousy - are as timeless as the myths themselves. "Conversations with the Goddesses" explores these ancient myths, revealing the personalities of seven female divinities - Aphrodite, Artemis, Athena, Demeter, Hera, Hestia, and Persephone - to help women grow and understand their own emotional patterns, and to learn to balance and navigate the challenges of life.

As a bridge between the ancient and modern worlds, knowledge of the goddesses and their individual essences will help you:

- Awaken and restore the natural power within you

- Understand the principles of female expression

- Enrich your personal relationships

- Bring out your hidden qualities, and help you use them to your best advantage

By embracing the unique characteristics of these immortal beings, you will blaze a path to freedom and wholeness. In the pages of this book, you will find literary reflections by Colette, Shakespeare, Amy Tan, and others that give each goddess her own voice and shed light on her distinctive qualities, as well as paintings, drawings, and sculpture that explore such emblematic icons as Aphrodite's scallop shell, symbolic of femininity. More than just a beautiful paean to the goddesses this powerful guide will help you grow to understand your inner beauty, strength, and wisdom.

5.0 out of 5 stars CONVERSATIONS WITH THE GODDESSES February 3, 2000
Format:Hardcover
This book is a rare combination of exquisite beauty, intellectual rigor and above all - fascinating practicality. The author is, of course, of Greek heritage. That and her classical education enlivened by a theater background is the energy source for her exciting book. Chapters on each of the principle Greek goddesses relate their personal myths - with narrative pace and wit, explain their archetypal significance for modern women, and offer practical steps for exploring and developing a relationship with those archetypes that live, in greater or lesser degree, in all women. The book is illustrated with great art, literary and psychological allusions, and charm. It will be enjoyed by women and the men who love them.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE THIS BOOK! Get one for yourself -- and a friend. November 8, 1999
Format:Hardcover
This book is a real gem -- engagingly written, beautifully illustrated, practical and inspiring all at the same time. The author helps to connect ageless wisdom with the challenges, hopes and heartaches of modern-day women with wit, clarity and even humor! I bought one for myself plus a stack to give as gifts to girlfriends -- a sweet, attractive present appropriate for all kinds of occasions. Learning the vocabulary of the goddesses is a wonderful tool in coping with women's issues -- and discovering the font of wisdom and stength each of us carry within.
