Book Description

May 15, 2012
Closing the gap between the higher wisdom that comes through us and our everyday behavior is perhaps today's biggest spiritual challenge. Elvis Presley was the first and most famous "canary in the coal mine" with this issue. Long before Michael Jackson, his legendary life and death warned the world about how important it is to deal with this challenge, with open eyes, heart and spirit. This new archetype of spiritual development that emerged in the 20th century may be Elvis's biggest legacy of all; arguable greater than his enduring popularity as an entertainer. This may well be the secret key that unlocks the mystery of why his legend continues to endure so strongly all these decades after his death. David E. Stanley, along with psychologist and integrity expert Dr. David S. Gruder, illuminate these details in this profound and timely book chroniling Stanley's seventeen-year spiritual journey with his stepbrother and mentor Elvis Presley. "Conversations With the King: Journals of a Young Apprentice" reveals the Elvis that few knew and all can learn from - Elvis the mystic and healer.

5.0 out of 5 stars insprarational April 1, 2012

To begin,I am a christian, and love the lord with all my heart and try to listen to him when he speaks to my heart.I am also a great fan of Elvis Presley and have been since I was a child.I always knew that there was something special about Elvis other than he was the greatest entertainer there ever has been, but when he sang gospel, you could hear his heart in every word he sang. This book written by David Stanley is far the best book about Elvis I have ever read.(and I have read many)David goes beyond the entertainer and shows us the real person Elvis was and his desire to serve God and the Devils hold on him.I am learning to listen and apply Gods word to my every day life and I thank David for this book and the steps he gives to a closer walk with God.I also appreciate the questions at the end of each chapter, that has made me really search my heart and soul for the reason God put me where I am today.Thank you David from the bottom of my heart,I will cherish this book and read it over and over again until I know the path the Lord has for me. 5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Self Realization Book April 13, 2012
Format:Hardcover
I received my book "Conversations with the King", and I started reading it immediately and I could not put it down. I did not realize it until I started reading this book, but I think this book was written for me.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about their true inner authentic self, because at the end of each chapter David gives you questions to answer, and the questions he asks makes you think twice about things that has happened in your life from past to present...(it did for me anyway). This book actually opened my eyes to alot of things that I was not really aware of or did not want to be aware of that had happened in my life. After reading this book I have a completely different outlook on my life and you will to. I can't say enough good things about this book.

Thank You David for writting this book and sharing your thoughts with the world and with all the Elvis fans out there.

If you never buy another book on "learning about your true authentic self",you need to buy this book. Trust me, you will be glad you did.

I appreciate the fact that David E.Stanley took the time to share his thought with us about Elvis, both personal and private, and it came from a man who knew Elvis probably better than anyone as he lived this life for 17 years.

If you like this book, you might also want to buy the film that David made a few years ago called..."Protecting the King"..... this film is very good. You can find it on Amazon.com

David is not only a great author but he also a great film maker. This is one book and film you will want in your library if you love Elvis and also like being true to your authentic self.

Thank You David, God Bless you Always

Mr.Stanley has the dubious distinction of having planted the "Elvis committed suicide" story (a big malicious LIE if ever there was one). A staggering revelation he did NOT report in his FIRST book, ELVIS WE LOVE YOU TENDER (1979) In fact,in that book he actually claims that Elvis would NEVER do such a thing! (I will perhaps locate the page and list it for you so you can read it for yourself) Then several years later he fabricated the suicide story in order to make money selling books for an equally sleazy author, Albert Goldman and their quick cash-in paperback ELVIS THE LAST 24 HOURS.Joe Esposito, another Elvis opportunist, went on the Geraldo show and personally attacked the malicious allegation to Stanleys face. But he was not deterred, and to this day has never offered a public apology or begged forgiveness for his disgraceful,denegrating-to-Elvis bull---- storytelling.

Yes, ever since then, Mr.Stanley has been stuck with his fabricated lie and has basically had to live with it since. He has done at least two additional books since then..plus a movie where HE was the focus of the story and NOT Elvis (PROTECTING THE KING I think it was called)..and now yet ANOTHER book where he again focuses the spotlight on HIMSELF instead of ELVIS (just look at the cover!)And I am more than willing to bet that the positive reviews appearing here were posted by sycophantic friends or "fans".

So, the question is: When does a man finally decide he has made enough money by selling self-serving, ego-driven versions of the same story over and over? Perhaps NEVER in the world of David Stanley. A self-proclaimed "motivational speaker".I must hand it to Mr.S that he is ingenious with the way he markets and promotes his line of thinly veiled con-job projects--but I pity the fans who are duped into wasting their money on them..thus this review/warning. This book oddly enough is his LEAST interesting publication.Perhaps I will add more details and examples to this review in the future, but for now just suffice it to say that you will find NOTHING new in this book, NO revelations, NO decent photos ,NO brilliant writing. What you WILL find is David Stanley patting himself on the back and trying to inject the angle of Elvis' spiritual side, an idea he actually stole from his brother Ricky who was, at one point recently, working on a book about.

As you can see, I am no fan of this pompous, belligerent. arrogant, windbag of a blowhard..but I would forgive all his sins if he would just ONCE put Elvis before HIMSELF when he does something. So far, he HASN'T. And sadly, I doubt he EVER WILL.
