I have great communication skills with my clients...but as a couple, we never learned how to communicate. For me, the "Ten Conversations" you must have are perhaps a bit like reviewing a complicated business contract and hammering out the details. The real jewel of this book is the first 65 pages on the basics of good communication (something I missed along the way). My wife and I are finally discussing things that we have kept bottled up inside. Just ordered two copies for my married children. I wish we had this book 30 years ago! Thanks Guy for the help.

This is a fantastic, well written book that every couple, married,unmarried, hope to be married one day, should read.
More so, the first 1/4 of the book explains basic communication do's and don'ts that EVERYONE should read and have mastered by their teens.

Really.

Personal growth seminars, counseling,lot's and lot's of reading,...looking back at all, THIS book would be my #1 choice as a resource to help foster wholesome, happy relationships.

I feel even closer to my boyfriend after reading this book together. It really helped us realize that we were indeed ready to get engaged. It sparked many great conversations.

This is the BEST book to prepare you if you are in a relationship and you think it's headed for marriage, or engaged, or even already married!!

It guides you through 10 detailed conversations and focuses on some very intense topics that every couple absolutely needs to discuss if considering tying the knot. The writer is witty and humorous in parts and easy to read, while still interjecting the psychology of communication into each chapter. It is not one of those "girly, feel good" books that the other person is going to roll his eyes and sigh, but one which both parters can thoroughly enjoy and get very meaningful information from. Take it seriously, but also have a good time going through the discussions.

My fiance and I learned so much from this book. We knew and had already discussed a lot of it, and some of it we thought we had discussed, but with the guided questions and probing discussions from the author, we were able to get deeper than we had before. There were a couple arguments stemming from certain topics, but the author discusses how to effectively communicate in the first chapter, which we went back to when things got heated. You must remember to respect the other person's feelings about a topic and listen to their point genuinely because it is quite likely that you will disagree on some things. That's part of marriage though, and going into a marriage relationship with an understanding of what to expect from your partner in regards to the big and small issues, will help you get through the tough times you face in the years ahead.

Anyway... I encourage anyone and everyone in a relationship to read this book. Even if you do not do it as a "make sure we're compatible" tool, you will have a lot of fun asking the questions and learning about each other!

Overall I feel this is a great book that's definitely going to annoy people who enjoy slandering others as being "over-analytical" because this book does offer fairly in-depth instruction on discerning long-term compatibility. I'd absolutely recommend this book to any mature and responsible individual with good character who takes seriously discerning their long-term compatibility with a potential spouse.

When I originally purchased this book, it had said that it was slightly used with some possible bent pages. However, when I received it, it was as if the book had never even been opened. The spine of the book was not even bent. It was a very nice surprise and ended up being a great book! I would buy again!

My fiance and I are reading "The 10 conversations you must have before you get married." It focuses a lot on communication. Each chapter features a topic like 'children', 'money', 'family', 'career', 'sex', etc, and questions based on that topic for you and your partner to discuss.

We're still working through it, but I like it so far. Though we'd already talked about most of the topics at some point or another, it is good to pointedly do so. And some questions might seem silly or obvious, but they are good prompts and ensure that you consider the topic in depth; not just what that topic might mean to you and/or your partner.

I haven't read other books on the topic to compare, but I would recommend this book.
