5.0 out of 5 stars Good CD, and they were awesome live
I bought this CD from their guitarist at their table at Championship, and got some of the guys to sign it. They're cool and humble guys, the CD is good, and they put on an awesome performance. I like the CD a lot; I'm not sure too much else what to say that can't be covered by listening to the sound samples on purevolume. See them live, and then buy the CD at the...

They're a surprisingly non-heavy band for the Ferret label to sign. Predictable, generic, overproduced alt-rock emo. They throw in the obligatory screamy vocals, that totally reek of "i'm just doing this because every other band that sounds like is". It's not really that hard to write a riff or melody that sounds slightly original, you'd think by law of averages they'd...

Don't just get it from Amazon if you can get it signed. They're a great live band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trustkill's new band is something special, December 30, 2004

When Trustkill announced the signing of New York emo-rock band Roses are Red, it was something very surprising. I hoped to see them step outside that hardcore/metalcore box that they had drawn and continue to sign diverse bands. I hoped Roses are Red would be the first to cross the barrier. Their full length "Conversations" is a blast of melodic rock, emo and hardcore rolled into a tight, well-sounding package. They don't sound anything like the other bands on Trustkill which is very refreshing, because TK has developed what a lot of people like to call the "Trustkill Sound" and Roses are Red totally destroy that reputation.

Opening with "White and Gold", Roses are Red lays out what they have. If you hate the first song, you're going to hate the record. If you like it, chances are this album is for you. Melodies and rich guitar sounds are layered, as well as the occasional scream that seems to be in there. Another I really love about RAR is their effective use of the keyboard. The keyboard can be very overused by a lot of bands, but RAR knows when and where to use it, like on the song "Oceans". No acoustic songs manage to sneek their way in here, which is surprising and refreshing. There is one interlude, the sixth track "12-34", which actually is not out of place on here. It sounds good. Songs like "I apologize" and "Silver Linings" are upbeat emo-punk anthems, while "You and me both" and "Conversations" are just about the best emo-core you're gonna get. "Conversations" even has a breakdown at the end. RAR can do it all. It's nice that the album can take so many different tones while still sounding like Roses are Red. If you're a fan of hardcore, punk, emo or rock, chances are you're going to find something you like on here.

Roses are Red are also awesome live, as they really go off. Vince is also a really cool guy. My friend kyle and I got to say a quick word to him at the recent Boys Nigh Out show and he was very cool. Buy this cd, and then go catch these guys live. They need all the support they can get, so don't be the guy who doesn't support them. Jump on board for emo-rock's newest, greatest band.

4.0 out of 5 stars The first review!, September 25, 2004

I saw Roses Are Red at a show nearly two years ago with Silverstein when they were under the moniker, 'Nobody Cares.' They put on an incredible set and were one of the best that night. Ever since then I kept track of the band and I was completley surprised that they were signed to Trustkill Records.

I finally bought their sophmore effort, "Conversations" a day after its initial release and I was hooked. With their single, White And Gold it makes you want to get up and dance. It's beautiful lyrics sent me going through the whole album happy. Even though it is short, it is still a good buy of any fan who is into Brand New, Matchbook Romance, or Taking Back Sunday.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hidden in Plain View Fan? This band is for you, December 2, 2004
This review is from: Conversations (Audio CD)
Yes, many may claim that Roses are Red are a very predictable melodic hardcore with no originality whatsoever but the truth is this band blends the best of both screamo and melodic hardcore and do it with great technique. They blend the emo aspects of screamo and mix it ingeniously with the hardcore aspects of melodic hardcore which in the end produces a more emotional hardcore which in my opinion is awesome. This album is not groundbreaking but it is great great melodic hardcore. If you like Hidden In Plain View, Senses Fail, Underoath, Emery, or Thrice you'll love this band.

They're a surprisingly non-heavy band for the Ferret label to sign. Predictable, generic, overproduced alt-rock emo. They throw in the obligatory screamy vocals, that totally reek of "i'm just doing this because every other band that sounds like is". It's not really that hard to write a riff or melody that sounds slightly original, you'd think by law of averages they'd write one eventually, but this album sounds like it was written with the specific intent of being as unoriginal as possible, fitting in not standing out. There are virtually no tempo changes anywhere in these songs, the drummer bashes out the same insipid mid-tempo beat from start to finish, and the guitar parts never deviate from painfully simple 4/4 patterns. I spit on bands like this. I guess I have to acknowledge that this album is "good" by the robotic cookie-cutter template standards they're writing to, there are bands who attempt the same thing and do it badly, but this album has no flavor and brings absolutely nothing new to the table. Everything good about this music has already been done better by a thousand other bands with more creativity and talent.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not even a second pick., April 24, 2005

alright, when i first heard Roses are Red , it was on a E-card from TrustKill.... and all because i only heard two songs, i thought Roses are Red had a positive Vibe that was coming from their music. The problem is.... is that when you do come to buying the album, you'll soon find out that the rest of the tracks have nothing in the songs to offer to you, and since all the other tracks are not interesting, you soon lose all interest into the songs you did like before.

Don't get me wrong, but i believe that Trustkill Records used to be a whole lot better a couple years ago, but now it seems they have lost most of their BEST bands and put in some that just dont seem to divide themselves from all of the other bands in the music industry. and although roses are red are not horrible..... their just not the kind of music to be really deeply into. and because of that i would not recommend this cd..... or at least borrow, or find another way to hear all of the songs before buying it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short but sweet, March 25, 2005
This review is from: Conversations (Audio CD)
Okay, this is a short review and it is 3 questions:

1. Do you like Screamo?

2. Do you like an amazing live show?

3. Are you human?

If the answers to any of these questions are yes, then you must buy this album. It's probably one of the most touching and intricate, as well as technically advanced albums in screamo. Trustkill had the right idea when they signed these guys...

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome CD, Awesome Live show, September 4, 2005
This review is from: Conversations (Audio CD)
I live right near Rochester, NY so I am very lucky. Roses are Red love their hometown fans and always stop by before big tours to give us their awesome live show. They really do have an energetic live show. Jumping around, getting people into it. And also, they are humble.

With the live show aside, the cd rocks hard. It's a perfect blend between Hardcore and Emo without sounding commericial. I wish there was more hardcore breakdowns like the one at the end of Conversations but maybe next release. They chug along going slow then fast then adding piano at the perfect time. Even the filler track is a perfect build up. I usually hate fillers but this one works.

All and all an awesome cd, an awesome band, and one great live show. If they are coming to your area, get out there and see um. You surely will not be disappointed.
